18. Old Elephant Foot, brewed in-house at Ybor Brewing Co.

However, for everyday consumption, it's either Flying Dog Doggie Style Pale Ale or Sierra Nevada Pale Ale. Big fan of Singletrack, too. Also, anything coming out of the Dunedin Brewing Company. Used to love Ybor City Calusa Wheat, but I can't find it anymore.

If I'm entertaining a number of folks, and need it sort of on the cheap, it's Amstel Light and Heineken.

25. I see this type of thread about beer every few weeks

I rarely consume any alcohol myself. So why is it that if I go to my local Kroger store they don't stock a lot of these beers that are supposed to be so great. Just who is buying all that Bud and Millers that nobody says they would touch? I have found that after a couple most anything is drinkable. I have bought a six pack of Sam Adams a couple times and it was like what we used to call skunk beer and I ended up pouring it down the sink. Maybe the reason was that it had set on the shelf so long it was really skunk beer???? I believe Sam Adams in this area is actually made by the Iron City Brewery and I doubt anyone on here would touch that swill. Myself I think Iron City is better than most of the big brand name stuff, it has some flavor to it.

28. We had a blindfolded beer tasting contest once

The end result was that nobody could tell the European or Mexican beers apart, but we could tell the difference between these beers and American brands (Budweiser, Schlitz, Old Milwaukee, Miller).

The kicker is that the control was plain water with a few drops of liquid detergent and nobody could tell the difference between this concoction and the American beers.

Go figure. :shrug:

52. Really? Because there's nothing more American than supporting your local

microbrew. Way more American than drinking that watered-down, mass-produced crap Anheiser-Busch tries to pass of as beer. ;-)

And the reason you don't see them so much in your local grocery store (althoug that is changing, thank the stars) is that the big distributors that stock the stores don't carry the microbrews--but they're all beginning to. People are discovering how good beer can really be, and good old economics is doing the rest (supply & demand).
