My sig-line is from a short animated movie, "The Toll Collector," which came out in 2003. It's funny, I haven't seen any more of the movie than just that clip that I somehow stumbled across while surfing one day, but those few seconds really spoke to me.

One of my personal "crusades" has always been the nightmarish state of women's self-esteem due to body image issues forced upon us by the media and entertainment industries. It is revolting how much joy is sucked from a woman's spirit, and how much of the potential in her life may be dimmed simply because she falls short of impossible to attain "beauty standards." I hate that so many women - and men - buy into that. It sickens me that women (men too) who fall far from the "ideal" and have suffered a lifetime of sadness and disappointment in themselves - oftentimes for an immutable characteristic - are still held up as objects of ridicule by some. It disgusts me that people are so judged by their looks that they are discriminated against in subtle and not-so-subtle ways in every aspect of life, from romance to job opportunities. It breaks my heart that our young woman turn to eating disorders when they do not see themselves as "thin enough." And so on. (Don't get me started, I can roll with this one all night, baby. Heh.) Anyway. Heaven help the male chauvinists on this planet the day ALL women become empowered by discovering their tremendous natural beauty, both physical and otherwise.
