Anyone else watching the Band of Brothers marathon
Edited on Sun Aug-20-06 02:13 PM by pokerfan
on the History Channel?

2nd Lt. George Rice: Looks like you guys are going to be surrounded.
Cpt. Richard Winters: We're paratroopers, Lieutenant, we're supposed to be surrounded.

David Webster: Hey, you! That's right, you stupid Kraut bastards. That's right. Say hello to Ford, and General fuckin' Motors. You stupid fascist pigs. Look at you. You have horses. What were you thinking? Dragging our asses half way around the world, interrupting our lives. For what? You ignorant, servile scum. What the fuck are we doing here?

Richard Winters: That night, I thanked God for seeing me through that day of days and prayed I would make it through D plus 1. I also promised that if some way I could get home again, I would find a nice peaceful town and spend the rest of my life in peace.

Pvt. Webster: {Hitler} should have killed himself three years ago. Saved us a lot of trouble.
Cpt. Nixon: Yeah, he should have. But he didn't.

1. That's a great series...
I gave Mr GoG the boxed set of DVDs last Christmas. We have a lot of marathons around here. :-)

2. IMO, it's the best thing that's ever been done on TV.
My favorite scene:

When they finally take off for the invasion, and Winters goes to the back of his plane and looks out at the vast invasion armada. And the camera sweeps back, so the viewer can see all the ships and planes heading for France, with that great music.

Actually the beginning of that sequence rocks too, with Winters helping each member of his platoon get up and into the plane. Very symbolic.

I get chills every time I see it.
