4. Being in the Artistic world during college

I learned that their world is a sucession of urgent nows. Whether it's right or not is beside the point. It simply is. No one is dying. No one will be homeless if someone happens to miss a cue during the play or if someone muffs a part during the concert. Nevertheless it's the end of the world if either one takes place.

6. Don't get me wrong

I love being amongst creative artistic folks. I hope to spend the rest of my life and part of eternity with a woman with those ideals. But as a day to day routine I'd rather deal with the egos of MD's and MBA's. That's just me though. :)

Music School was full of them. We have them in Medicine as well. Massaging egos is right. God complexes are not unusual but fortunately not common either, at least from my experience.

For the record I've met more than my share of non-Dr. medical personnel with a God complex.

Sounds like we're on the same cosmic wavelength here. I find myself after 20+ years in the medical field to become more creative with what I know and what I've learned through the years. In no way though would I want to be a professional musician or actor. Having the best of both worlds does have its appeal to me.

13. I learned this week that I'm related by marriage to the Earl of Rochester.

Elizabeth Malet, his wife, was one of our predecessors, in the family of Greville in England. My husband is the descendant of the french half of the (de) Malet family. We were in London 2 weeks ago and visited Warwick Castle by chance. I was astonished to see the family name throughout the castle. I knew there was an english half of it, but had no idea it was that important. I knew of the family's historic significance in France, but hadn't considered it much in England until seeing the name in the castle.

The Libertine has become one of my truly all time favorite movies... it's just brilliant. It has not received the attention it deserves. I've probably watched it 10 times in the past few months, just eating up the performances. Rupert Friend, little on the screen as he was, was great and I'm watching him with a keen eye. We're going to see a lot of that young man.

17. i enjoyed the film's atmospherics, cinematography, lighting...

procession & such; all top notch (i enjoy period pieces in either event when done as good as this one i.e. Barry Lyndon, etc), and i do like Depp very much as an actor neither am i interested in being flamed by others perhaps; but i think in this work he truly 'showed up to work'. in particular, his work/walk round the chamber on crutches as he rends the bill worthless that would impinged upon the monarchy...very nice, as was all endeavor throughout imo

it is sad though, don't you think, all that position & loft in life, coming to such end; those various estates having been established thousands of years in many cases, when the king suggests your drift into your face in the form of a pineapple brought from across the seas of a round world,

26. Your point about the pineapple is excellent and spot on. Here was a king

who wanted to be known for his cultural achievements... and he measured it in the ability to bring a pineapple from around the world. And yet he failed to see how Rochester's portrayal of him was harrowingly accurate, if not ascerbic and perhaps a wee bit (!) over the top.

It's a shame this story has been passed by the mainstream; but perhaps the mainstream is not ready for this.

It's a brilliant film; I absolutely adored Malkovich and proclaimed earlier that it's the first time he's not BEING Malcovich in a stunningly understated performance.

I loved it! :D

Johnny Depp did such a wonderful job playing just a despicable little man.

I had to look around to find this movie. They didn't have it at Circuit City after its release. I was getting ready to order it online when I saw it at target about 3 weeks after it was released.

I am sure it didn't get the credit it deserved because it was a truly raw film. There was no pretense there, and an America that was so frightened over Janet Jackson's boob was surely not prepared for this film.

'hollywood' box office draw, many felt it might hurt his image...Depp stepped further out there than did Cruise in Vanilla Sky, making that piece look like a comic book

and to comment upthread about the medical profession...it amazes me how humble doctors can be and see the amount of nurses who can be arrogant...the young ones just graduating:wtf:


not all mind you but, it has been my experience that lately more doctors seem to be democratic and these young nurses want to throw their weight around like THEY are somebody:eyes:
