What song/album reminds you of your first love?
Edited on Sun Aug-20-06 12:12 AM by koneko
While I have countless songs from my puppy love years in high school, there is one album that always hits me when I hear it.

The one album that hits me with the strength of a more mature love is The Cure's Disintegration. It was the soundtrack to my first truly serious post-high school, more than puppy-love relationship. We were in college, and it was our favorite band. The album had just come out.

To this day, I cannot think of that album as depressing due to the memories it evokes.

**on edit, I should hit spell check before I post**

This guy in the video (Shannon Hoon, RIP) looks so much like the first person I truly loved...just a goddamn beautiful boy.

Same attitude as in this song as well, always happy (and always stoned on the homegrown)...always cracking jokes and making stupid puns and just all in all having a damn good time.

24. Actually, for my first really deep love, also the first that really,
really hurt me badly, the song was probably Elvis' version of "Only The Strong Survive." And, oddly enough, I just posted my version of it in another thread here today... :D

Only The Strong Survive

It messed me up pretty badly, that love did. I left the country for a while, taking a year off midway through a degree, to deal with everything.

Also, some U2 songs ("New Year's Day," especially, and "Sunday, Bloody Sunday") remind me of her because hey -- along with songs by some current rock bands from that country -- were the background music for our time together. It was 1984.

30. Soldier Boy: The Shirelles (1962)
Soldier boy
Oh, my little soldier boy
I'll be true to you

You were my first love
And you'll be my last love
I will never make you blue
I'll be true to you
In the whole world
You can love but one girl
Let me be that one girl
For I'll be true to you

Wherever you go
My heart will follow
I love you so
I'll be true to you
Take my love with you
To any port or foreign shore
Darling you must feel for sure
I'll be true to you

Soldier boy
Oh, my little soldier boy
I'll be true to you

50. I'm a little older than you.... mine is "Earth Angel"...
recorded by The Penguins in 1954 and still considered one of the great oldies. Maybe the best "slow dance" song of all time:

Earth angel, earth angel
Will you be mine?
My darling dear
Love you all the time
I'm just a fool
A fool in love with you

Earth angel, earth angel
The one I adore
Love you forever and ever more
I'm just a fool
A fool in love with you

I fell for you and I knew
The vision of your love-loveliness
I hoped and I pray that someday
I'll be the vision of your hap-happiness oh, oh, oh, OH!

Earth angel, earth angel
Please be mine
My darling dear
Love you all the time
I'm just a fool
A fool in love with you-ou-ou

I fell for you and I knew
The vision of your loveliness
I hope and pray that someday
That I'll be the vision of your happiness

oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh , oh, oh, oh

Earth angel, earth angel
Please be mine
My darling dear
Love you all the time
I'm just a fool
A fool in love with you-ou (you, you, you)

I know, the lyric is unbelievably simple and repetitive. But it's still a great song to listen to.

Edited on Sun Aug-20-06 08:22 AM by NewWaveChick1981
:) Says it all.

So In Love by Orchestra Maneouvres In the Dark

Talk to me, dont lie to me
Save your breath
Dont look at me, dont smile at me
Just close your eyes
I was so impressed by you
I was running blind
I would fall for every trick
Every twist of mind

Heaven is cold
Without any soul
Its hard to believe
I was so in love with you

Dont say your prayers, dont build your hopes
Just walk away
Dont phone me up, dont call around
Dont waste your time
You were so in awe of me
You were so divine
You would do just anything
To still be mine

Heaven is cold
Without any soul
Its hard to believe
I was so in love with you

All the things you said to me
I was so upset
You were always talking talking
God I did my best

Heaven is cold
Without any soul
Its hard to believe
I was so in love with you

44. You don't know me
the first woman i truly loved.

You give your hand to me
And then you say hello
I can hardly speak
My heart is beating so
And anyone can tell
You think you know me well
But you don't know me

Oh you don't know the one
That thinks of you at night
Who longs to kiss your lips
And yearns to squeeze you tight
No I'm just a friend
That's all I've ever been
You just don't know me

I never knew the art of making love
Though my heart aches with love for you
Afraid and shy, I let my chance go by
The chance that you might love me too
You give your hand to me
And then you say goodbye
I watch you walk away
Beside the lucky guy
You'll never, never know
The one who loves you so
You just don't know me

I never knew the art of making love
Though my heart aches with love for you
Afraid and shy, I let my chance go by
The chance that you might love me too

You give your hand to me
And then you say goodbye
I watch you walk away
Beside the lucky guy
Who'll never, never know
The one who loves you so
You just don't know me

You'll never, ever know
mmmm, cause you just don't know me

46. One Fine Morning~Lighthouse
One fine morning, girl, I'll wake up
Wipe the sleep from my eyes
Go outside and feel the sunshine
Then I know I'll realize
That as long as you love me, girl, we'll fly

And on that mornin' when I wake up
I'll see your face inside a cloud
See your smile inside a window
Hear your voice inside a crowd
Calling, "Come with me baby and we'll fly"

Yeah, we'll fly-y-y, yeah, we'll fly
We'll fly-y-y, yeah, we'll fly

And on that mornin' when I wake up
We'll go outside and live our dreams
I'll buy you candies made of stardust
And little dolls dressed up in moonbeams
And everywhere we go we'll laugh and sing
I'll kiss you morning, noon and night
And all the universe will smile on us
'Cause they know that our love is finally right

Yeah, we'll fly-y-y, yeah, we'll fly
We'll fly-y-y, yeah, we'll fly

Yeah, we'll fly to the east, we'll fly to the west
There'll be no place we can't call our own
Yeah, we'll fly to the north, we'll fly to the south
Every planet will become our home

Yeah, we'll fly-y-y, yeah, we'll fly
Yeah, we'll fly to the east, we'll fly to the west
There'll be no place we can't call our own

Edited on Sun Aug-20-06 06:18 PM by DemExpat

Gimme Some Lovin'
Lyrics: Steve Winwood, Spencer Davis, Muff Winwood
Music: Steve Winwood, Spencer Davis, Muff Winwood

Well my temperature's rising, got my feet on the floor
Crazy people knocking 'cause they're wanting some more
Let me in baby, I don't know what you've got
But you'd better take it easy, this place is hot

Chorus
And I'm so glad we made it
So glad we made it
You gotta gimme some lovin' (gimme, gimme some lovin')
Gimme, gimme some lovin' (gimme, gimme some lovin')
Gimme, gimme some lovin', every day

I feel so good, everybody's getting high
Better take it easy, 'cause this place is on fire
It's been a hard day, and I don't know what to do
Wait a minute baby, it could happen to you

I feel so good, everybody's getting high
Better take it easy, 'cause this place is on fire
It's been a hard day nothing went too good
Now I'm gonna relax like everybody should

52. My first love? It was something really cheesy...
I can't remember the singer but he was originally in Chicago. What makes this album remind me of my Norwegian is that one night my roommate put the record on in our apartment. Something sad and heartbreaking began to play. I thought to myself, "I know that one day this song will make me cry, but right now I am blissfully happy. Let the sadness wait."

Eventually the sadness came and I played the album and cried. Now I know better and never listen to music that causes pain.

54. When a Man Loves a Woman, by Percy Sledge
My first slow dance with my first serious love. I met him in the summer of '68, and he broke my heart two years later when I was in the 10th grade.

I saw a guy at the mall last weekend who looked just like him, only old, gray-haired and wrinkly.

I still love the song. It reminds me that something can be devastating when it happens but the pain doesn't last forever.

I read your thread title and thought "Love Song" by the Cure. Then I opened your post and there it was - Disintegration.

Oh so true... except mine is a sad reminder. I listened to "Love Song" over and over again for hours with tears running down my face after my first boyfriend broke up with me... ugh...

OH what drama. And of course the drama had a soundtrack many miles long. Good to be out of it (too much drama), but I still get a kick in the stomach from George Michael's "Kissing a Fool" and INXS' "Never Tear Us Apart"--he put them on a mix tape (YES my age is showing) that he gave me after everything went kablooey.
