Why are there no ways to PROTECT the web browser history file?
There's a thousand million ways to delete the damn records, but none to keep them from being deleted. :eyes:

And I can't disable the CTRL-H combination to prevent the history list from appearing in IE...

ARGH!

1. Use a different browser
IE is full of security flaws.

I'm using Avant Browser as I type. CTRL H doesn't work.

You can also go into 'Local Settings' and delete the history, if you must.

2. No can do
Don't want to delete the history, at all, ever, until I choose to wipe it clean (or within 30 days).

Can't use non-IE browser because our company has standardized on IE but then I'd have to find ways to disable that program's ability to delete its history.

I've found ways to get past every method of accessing the history except ctrl-H. The machine is locked down utterly tight except for this one damn loophole. And, sadly, I can't add security to the folder to prevent reading of the files by the user in question (write-only).

Ugh.

Third party programs exist that will prvent this from happening, but I shouldn't have to buy one of those. MS has regedits available for every other aspect of desktop lockdown, why not this?!

This can be configured so that it does not leave any mark in your registry (do not make it your "default browser").

With MF, you can enable it so it keeps no record of your browsing history (if that is what you seek to do).

IF you are visiting sites that you rather employers do not know about (I assume this is what you are doing), you can use this method.

Otherwise, you can go into the History file in "Local Settings" (in XP) and cherrypick what to delete, if you wish. Or if it is possible to do on your unit.

Don't forget to delete specific cookies, if you feel the need. This is easily done in MF.

Another way is to find a web proxy (like Anonymizer). There, you can surf via their IP with no tracks. Good for use on Freeper sites! ;)

4. Quite the opposite, sadly
I need to track where users go and my networking co-workers are less than helpful and would prefer this department had a totally separate internet connection (and network) altogether. (this is what we call "teamwork" in a republican-oriented world.)

I'm looking into vb scripting with the WH_KEYBOARD_LL hook to see if I can intercept the CTRL-H keystroke and make it do nothing from there. Though there's got to be a better way to work within my confinement, but I'll do what it takes because it's silly to buy 3rd party applications. :-(

Besides, even if I had no record on my local machine, the firewall/sniffer software supposedly tracks all URLs entered bya ny workstation, based on the IP address. If I were to end-run around them, they'd fire me. (hell, I can't do half the things I NEED to do in my job because of what they think is necessary. They won't trust us employees. I stay only because of the people I primarily support to, which is a far friendlier department too...)

I appreciate the idea though, and I'll check out MF for personal use here at home. Thx!
