went to a housewarming party, nice friendly people. They were opening their presents and I saw the host & his brother-in-law looking at me, I said "What?" and they grinned & said, "I'm sure you have heard this before, you look a lot like Rosie O'Donnel." In front of everyone. That's it.

I tried to block it out. I have a similar mouth shape, but it wasn't very flattering. If I tell someone they resemble a celebrity, it is always with consideration. Oh never mind, I'm just not in a good frame for this.

but people don't think before they speak. I have a video link saved of her kicking Sean Hannity and Elizabeth Hasselbeck's asses at the same time; I wish I could do that like her. When I was blond people said I looked like Uma Thurman or Lisa Kudrow, neither one of which I can see. I haven't been compared to anyone in a long time, but I'd be hurt by the Rosie comparison even if she does kick some serious right-wing ass.

has a scar on his lip resembling the result of surgery to repair cleft lip / palate. I was born with a relatively severe case of both, so some customer at my job decided to tell me I look like Pheonix. Aside from the scar, I look NOTHING like him.

Could've been worse, I guess, like telling me I look like Rush Limbaugh...he's a little more stomach-turning than Gene Simmons, at least.

The truth is that people say all sorts of weird things and -- just as people often believe themselves to look just like someone to whom they bear not the slightest resemblance -- sometimes they're way off-base with comparisons of friends and acquaintances to celebrities. Not that Rosie O'Donnell is somehow putrid in appearance, but I wouldn't worry about it because if you and those closest to you can't see the resemblance it isn't likely to be there.

Next time just tell 'em they both look like Gene Simmons...

I've been told for a lot of my life that I look like and remind people of Kathy Bates. The first time was in 7th grade after a play I'd done where I was Calamity Jane, and a parent walked up to me afterwards and told me I reminded her of Kathy (this is when Misery was in the theaters). When I was 19, Dolores Claiborne had just come out and several people told me I looked just like her in that movie. Now, don't get me wrong, Kathy is a FANTASTIC actress, and she kicked major ass in that movie, but really. AND, I had a fucking BLUE MOHAWK at the time. No 19 year-old girl wants to be told she looks exactly like someone who's the same age as her mother and who vastly outweighed her (I had many body issues at the time and was at my lowest weight). I was NOT happy.

Of course, now I can see the resemblance and don't mind, but still. Maybe I just look like crazy Steven King Kathy Bates.

I think some people have some kind of defect in their face recognition circuitry. The s.o. never recognizes minor actors in movies, or gets them mixed up, unless they're actually on the screen right then. It's weird.
