Roasting Green Chiles - all day today
That's my day. Roasting a couple years worth of green chiles. I can't think of a better way to spend it. I love green chiles. I love their smell. I love their texture. I love their taste. I love green chiles.

It is getting a bit hot in here, though.

What are you doing today?

2. I cram'em in plastic zip locks
and freeze'em until they're needed.

I eat a LOT of green chiles. Every meal.

3. I LOVE the smell of chiles roasting! Yum, yum!
Still too warm for it here in AZ, but come fall, when others enjoy the smell of burning leaves, we enjoy the smell of roasting chiles--my neighborhood is rife with it.

(blandeatlast slips away on a trail of her own drool...)

4. My computer is getting surgery
We are opening her up and adding another hard drive and five 2.0 highspeed USB ports for my Ipod. We are also gonna blow out the dust of course.

5. You're roasting them inside?
Poor thing. We roast ours on the patio using a chile roaster (wire drum fired by propane)and that sucker is fast. The smell of roasting green chiles is divine.

What kinds are you roasting? We grow New Mex Joe Parkers and Big Jims plus one or two varieties of pasillas or mulatos.

7. I had a friend
who went to Hatch (kingdom of green chile), and brought me back about a million of'em.

You're more of an expert than me. I just know I purchased the ones labeled "hot"!

I'll have to do a little research, and get back to you!

I'm roasting most in the friggin oven, but have some going on the smoker outside too. Those from the smoker are the absolute best. They take a while, but damn, they're good.

9. Hatch chiles really are superior to most
Edited on Sat Aug-19-06 10:43 AM by Gormy Cuss
The variety is probably a New Mex 6 or Joe Parker relative. When I lived in Boston I used to order cases of Hatch greens and roast them on the stove or grill. Once you've had fresh roasted green chiles it's hard to settle for those canned ones.

14. Yum is right, but be careful
there is a lot of flooding in Hatch right now. I don't know how it will affect the rest of the crop.
