40. #3 was true for me as well
It really stunk on my 21st when my friends felt bad for me so they kidnapped me off the sidewalk outside the dining hall (They literally pulled-up next to me, jumped out, grabbed me and threw me into the van loaded with a rolling bar.)...too bad I was on my way to an exam at the time which I arrived 20 minutes late for, sloshed to the gills. I got an A- though.

I had a morning exam on my 21st, then I took the bus to the ABC store (liquor store) and bought a bottle of rum just because I could. My roommates and I fixed pina coladas that night. :9 Had an exam that next day too, so I didn't get hammered.

64. It did suck
The exam was for a super-easy class, and the 7 points I lost on the essay were the only 7 points I missed all semester.

It was that close to a perfect course, it would have been neat to say I never got anything wrong all semester.

Senior year, last semester of college, I didn't have any exams so...of course, I lost my creative writing portfolio off the university's mapped hard drive the day before it was due and spent my birthday in the computer lab basically faking an entire semester's worth of work.

I guess if map is a plain lady I must just find plain ladies attractive.
Also we tend to put to much stock into what beauty actually is.
I think yours is more than what is shown on the surface(which is in no way plain at all).I think it goes deeper.
You are a very nice woman and i think you have a good heart! And to me thats true beauty.
I honestly am not trying to embarrass you.
Just trying to give you an honest opinion from a guy you will probably never meet half a continent away.

70. 1984 Pontiac Sunbird, 4-door, special "sport" edition
Edited on Sat Aug-19-06 02:41 PM by nuxvomica
It was red with grey upholstery and chrome trim around all the windows, baggage rack, sun roof, and some sort of permashield finish that kept it shiny all those years. Now that I think about it, it was only 13 years cuz I bought it in April, 1984, and the engine died on me in July, 1997. :dunce: When I bought the car, the dealer gave me a bunch of coupons for free oil changes so I changed the oil religiously every 3 months whether it needed it or not. That's probably why it lasted so long.

Note: this is my 4000th post! :woohoo:

  2. I decided that I was never buying anything leather again after I became a vegetarian 2 years ago but still haven't ever gotten around to throwing away my leather goods.
  3. I was the first student in the history of the state of CT to be concurrently enrolled in "Spec. Ed" and "Talented and Gifted" programs.
  4. I was disqualified from a regional Academic Bowl in high school because a local newscaster asked a competition question for which he had the wrong answer and I yelled "wrong" at him.
  5. I'm tone-deaf.
  6. I had to take my last course of college at a local state school over the summer and transfer the credits back to Catholic University because I was banned from campus after being labeled an agitator for protesting the university's involvement in the Right-To-Life march, use of union-busting tactics against the janitor's union and refusal to remove Cardinal Law from the Board of Trustees during the pedophila scandal. I recently got an invitation to serve on the Homecoming committee, I don't think they looked at who they sent it to.
  7. I'm in Mensa.
  8. I've never voted for a winning Presidential or Senate candidate.
  9. I wear boxer-briefs.
  10. I'm trying to learn Japanese but it's going poorly.

1. I have also never voted for Clinton and didn’t vote for Gore or Kerry either –the simple reason being that I am not a US citizen nor do I reside in the US and therefore have no say in your political process. But I supported Clinton from afar and am still profoundly grateful for him for allowing me to spend my high school years in a world where peace, prosperity, hope, idealism and a positive view of the future prevailed. Gore and Kerry were probably two of the best presidents that America never had IMO and it is to the detriment of the world that America never had them. In the country that I am in, I have always voted for the centre left main political party (equivalent to the Democrats) and have been a member of that party since the age of 15 and am actively involved in party politics
2. Both my parents were born to my respective sets of grandparents reasonably late in life and they in turn had me relatively late in their life. Despite that, all my grandparents lived to an advanced age and I got to know all but one of them very well and had a very close and loving relationship with them all.
3. I have a phobia of being trapped in elevators and being trapped in cars underwater that sometimes frightens me so much that it impacts on my daily. Nevertheless I am not claustrophobic and can quite happily live and sleep in small confined areas –and I love exploring attics
4. I am sometimes scared of heights
5. I lived in South East Asia as a youth and therefore got to know a lot about other cultures and religions and have witnessed them first hand –and have friends from a lot of the various ethnic and religious groups in the countries in which I lived
6. I’ve had so many surgeries in the first two decades of my life (particularly in the first 15 years of my life) that I have lost count of them
7. Both my grandparents met Mahatma Gandhi before they were married
8. I have met two of the former Prime Ministers of my country
9. I supported (albeit from afar and without a chance to participate) Bill Bradley’s presidential campaign in 2000. I thought then (and I think now) that he’d have made a wonderful President; he just chose the wrong year to run. That doesn’t in any way diminish my profound admiration and respect for Al Gore
10. I once wrote to President Clinton and his office sent me the wrong automated reply (addressed to a domestic audience instead of a foreign audience). I wrote again a while later and they sent the right automated response that time. Incidentally he took the advice I gave him the first time I wrote to him:)

1 I always wanted to flamenco dance and play the castanets

2 My father died in 1982 of heart failure

3 My youngest brother died in 1992 of AIDS

4 My older brother died in 2002 of an Aneurysm
and I lurked here since before then and when your beloved Kephra
died I blubbered like a baby. He was exactly like my brother. Always on his computer,
a genius when it came to the computer and sort of stayed to himself but got together with
people who believed in the same things he did.

5 I love to dance but hate to make a fool of myself

6 I like rap music (some of it anyway)

7 I really want my kids (23 and 29) to get the hell out!

8 I have dinner every Friday night for all my friends. Its great

9 I am deathly afraid in cars, I was in 3 accidents in my teens.

10 I voted republican (but not anymore!)

108. Hmmmm....
Edited on Sat Aug-19-06 10:22 PM by benEzra
Let's see...

(1) I have a B.A. and some masters coursework in English. My username comes from a Robert Browning poem, to which I was introduced by Isaac Asimov in Pebble in the Sky when I was in seventh grade.

(2) I am a certifiable physics geek. I have been known to sit around and calculate the Lorentz gamma for everyday objects just for fun. A word to the wise - don't bring up General Relativity at bedtime. It isn't romantic. Don't ask me how I know. My little sister is also a physics geek, so geekness must run in the family. She double-majored in Engineering and Mathematics at NC State and is now a professional engineer.

(3) I like to sail, and am in the process of restoring a late 1980's Alcort Sunfish that I picked up for $200. (No, that's not our neighborhood in the photo!)

Story here.

(4) I'm a descendant of Eleanor of Aquitaine, from her later British days (but so is half the United States, probably).

(5) My 7-year-old son has had two open-heart surgeries at Boston Children's, seven angioplasties (at Children's and UAB), a Ladd procedure, and is the bravest kid in the world.

(6) My 5 y.o. daughter informed me this week that she wants to be a race car driver, a "superhero who saves people," a fighter pilot, and the governor of NC. (Think she's a Type A personality?)

(7) My wife was born in Boston at Brigham & Women's, back when it was the Lying In (she's only 35, so it wasn't THAT long ago)--which by coincidence, is across the street from Boston Children's. No kidding. She lived in Cambridge for 5 years, but grew up mostly in Maine, studies medieval history for fun, is fascinated with the history and culture of Russia and the Ukraine, and would love to visit Kyiv someday.

(8) I own and shoot a civilian rifle that looks a lot like an NFA Title 2 restricted AK-47 (no, it's not an AK-47):

Details

(9) I have been all kinds of wierd places in Halo 2 (inside the engine nozzles of In Amber Clad on Cairo Station; have ridden the Guardians on several levels; bottom of the side shaft in Sacred Icon; bottom of the lake on Delta Halo; have climbed both peaks overlooking the Control Room on Great Journey, and have gotten both a Banshee and a Ghost into the final battle)

(10) I spend WAY more time reading DU threads than I oughta...

4. I have a son who will be 19 in about 6 weeks.
5. I love a good thunderstorm
6. My favorite color is yellow
7. I haven't had sex in over 6 years (by choice)
8. My 8 year old car has had 8 windshields (including the one I had installed on Friday)

111. Mine
1) I'm 30

2) Big music fan

3) Proud member of the left wing (here's how I'd put myself on the liberal scale, with 10 being most ascribed to being liberal and 0 most conservative) -

Taxes: 9 (raise them on the rich to how they were in the mid-60s for the top 1% - keep the same or possibly lower for the middle class and lower)
Spending: 9 (9 only because there IS some pork - just not what Repukes like Bush often mention)
Health Care: 10+ (should be free for all)
Death Penalty: 10 (I have changed from mostly anti-death penalty to completely anti-death penalty. But it's not one of my most important issues.)
War and Peace: 9.9 (War is almost never an answer. What we need to do is destroy the terrorist mindset, which is done through peace)
Separation of Church And State: 9.9 (want them separate, but don't feel we need to push every little thing like the Pledge)
Affirmative action: 7 (still needed in limited forms)
Guns: 8 (confiscate guns used in crimes and register them; require licensing for handgun pwners. I'm anti-gun, but believe people should be able to own them)
Immigration: 8 (enforce borders, but allow amnesty to illegals who have been here a while and pass citizenship tests.)
Trade: 8 (against NAFTA)
Civil liberties: 10 (they can not be infringed upon.)

4) I own a Sony VAIO computer

5) I know some HTML, C Programming, and Perl

6) I love dogs

7) I always like to be reading a book

8) I think Big Brother All Stars isn't as fun as I thought it would be. Only the bad guys of the show, Will and Boogie, have been entertaining. They took out fun ones early (Allison, Nikomas, Jase.)

9) Luke Petitgout of the Giants is a cousin of mine (not related by blood, but he's a member of my late grandmother's extended family.)

10) Love Christmas season - but also enjoy the rest of the year
