Hey, let's send some good vibes to Roger Ebert:

LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Film critic Roger Ebert says his recovery from cancer surgery is taking longer than he expected due to complications from radiation therapy but doctors are "enthusiastically optimistic" about his prognosis.

The 64-year-old Pulitzer Prize winner, a patient at Northwestern Memorial Hospital in Chicago, gave readers a lengthy update on his medical condition in a statement posted on Friday on his Web site.

Ebert entered the hospital in mid-June to undergo surgery for salivary gland cancer, his third such operation since 2003, and was packing to go home about two weeks later when an artery burst in his jaw.

He said doctors determined the rupture was caused by the breakdown of tissue surrounding the blood vessel due to intense radiation treatments he had undergone three years earlier.

I have always liked Roger. I hope he pulls through this okay.

1. Best wishes to a good critic.
I've liked Roger also. More so than I did Gene Siskel.

Here's my best wishes to a good guy.

2. Gene always seemed kind of snooty to me.
But he and Roger were a great combo, weren't they? I loved their fights over movies.

3. Yeah, same here.
Siskel did seem more snooty. Roger Ebert seems more down to Earth.

But they were indeed a memorable combo. I never missed "Siskel and Ebert".

Once, many years ago, I played poker with Roger Ebert at the place he owned in Michigan. A friend who had worked at the Sun-Times knew him and we were invited to go to dinner (everyone paid for him/herself) as the check was divided up and then we went back to Roger's house to play poker. He put up the $$$ for my friend and I to play. I won and returned all the money back to him. And I never met him again. But he was a gracious host.

Not to drop names, but I also vaguely knew Gene Siskel from when I worked at the Tribune. Let me just say that I really liked Roger. ;) Siskel was a bit full of himself. Ebert never has been.

Edited for stupid typo.

5. I am so envious. Roger was my secret crush for a few years.
Which was a little inexplicable to me at the time, but made more sense as I got older. Anyway, you got to play cards with him -how unbelievably cool! You had class returning the money to him, too.

6. He had class staking us to play.
But he had an enormous poker fund! Truly a nice guy. It was quite an evening and one that I will always remember.

8. What a great idea, my dear Bunny!
My husband and I have always watched his show, back from the days when he was on PBS......

It's heartbreaking to have him missing now..........

All the best for a speeded-up recovery, Roger!

:applause: :applause:

9. Yes, I loved him on PBS. I followed them as much as possible
when they went to commercial TV (until Siskel died), but I found that they were scheduled at very weird and inconsistent times, so it wasn't always easy to catch their show.

It's been totally hit and miss with this Roeper guy.
