I guess I know who my friends are... and they aren't 90% of my coworkers!
I have to rant about today. Two days ago, I sent an email to all of my coworkers, asking if they could possible give me a ride in to work today, as I was having to drop my car off at the mechanic's. Not ONE of them responded. And yes, they all read the email. One co-worker wasn't there, because she was on vacation, so I didn't email her.

So today... I figure I will take the bus in to work from the mechanic's. WRONG. It was late, so I started walking. And walking. And walking. I walked the entire way to work, which is about 3 miles, the last 1/4 mile up a very steep hill. You might think 3 miles isn't that bad, but I have two torn ligaments from a car accident in October, a bad back, and asthma. My co-workers knew of my health problems, and STILL didn't offer to help me out.

To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I thought my co-workers and I got along pretty well. That's my rant, now I'm going back to put ice on my ankle some more.

1. that's really awful.
I can't believe that they would do you this way with having torn ligaments. That is too bad.

I had car trouble for a while a few years back (threw a rod in my truck, bought a lemon that blew up right after that, etc) and I would ride my bike to work and then I would just ask a different person each night to give me a ride home, cause most of them had pick-ups. I lived 15 miles from work so it was good exercise but I worked 2nd so I couldn't ride home. I got really lucky because one of my co-workers offered to take me home every night for as long as I needed, and she wouldn't accept any money which was really weird I thought. Then I found out later she was having an affair on her husband and I was her 'excuse' about why she was getting home so late every night.

Is it possible that they all thought someone else was going to give you a ride so none of them stepped forward. I was really embarassed when I had to ask for rides; that's why I asked a different guy each night. I hate car trouble...that is the probably the worst stressor I get when I have car trouble.

2. People can be all wrapped up in their own little problems...

and just not care. Sorry to hear this happened to you. Please don't take it too personally. Most Americans, in general, are very weird about carpooling, for some reason I still don't get! Maybe they are just caught up in the back-to-school-got-to-run-massive-errands mode this week. Hugs to you...

4. Co-workers are not friends. Leave your job and chances are
you'll never see or hear from them again.

13. Generally true...
although I have kept in touch with some co-workers from jobs past. but you would think the people you currently work with would at least be friendly while you're working with them.

20. No, but my boss called me
Because I had left her a voice mail explaining why I was going to be late, and I'm sure they heard the entire conversation, since we are in a small area, and everyone is in cubicles. I told my boss how disappointed I was that my co-workers didn't seem to really care about their team mates.

6. OK, I'm a little confused...
If you know who your friends are and they aren't 90% of your coworkers, how would you classify the other 10%, since they didn't help you out either?

9. The 10% was the girl on vacation
She came back today, and gave me a ride to pick up my car after work.

So noted...

I thought I'd lost some math skills, in truth, it appears I've lost some reading comprehension and the ability to infer.

7. You should have asked the mechanic to have someone give you a ride
The Cuban mechanic I go to does this if you don't have a ride.

8. They didn't have anyone
The mechanic is a one-man shop. He couldn't leave to give me a ride.

This is Boulder, after all. Republicans/conservatives are endangered species here.

MrG does this with his coworkers all the time. It is such a shame that we have become such an insulated, uncaring society. I'm sorry Rad. :(

22. In my experience I find that when asking
for favors like this, face to face always works better. The thing about e-mail is that first of all everyone might have thought that someone else would answer you since you e-mailed all of them at once. And secondly some of them might have had a lot of e-mail or just don't read their e-mails with the same frequency. I had good friends at work who sometimes wouldn't answer e-mails at all or not until a week later because they had so many e-mails to go through. They were happy to do a favor for me when I asked them face to face but e-mails often got lost in the shuffle.

23. That's a good suggestion
however, they all DID read the email, because I got the read receipts on them. So that excuse doesn't work. But I will ask in person next time.
