I finally figured out why I can't watch the movie Big
I am glaringly reminded of someone I used to be with, and love(d).

Any movies you can't watch for any reason?

I also never watch scary slasher type movies.

1. I have a tough time with movies where kids are abused...
I just don't deal with it well...

2. I can't deal with any movie where animals die or are hurt
Babe, March of the Penguins, Black Beauty.... etc. It depresses me for days and days.

5. I have a hard time with that, too.
I have seen "March of the Penguins" four or five times (I work for Warner Bros.) and I am always sad when something happens to a penguin. The noises that the penguins make when they lose their baby absolutely kills me.

6. My older boy used to get angry
when he saw movies where animals were hurt. He never had any problem with people dying or being shot or hit; but he'd go into a tirade if a dog was hit by a car or something.

And when we'd watch the Westminster dog show, he'd get mad at me if I laughed at a dog...and some of their hairdos make it difficult to refrain from laughing.

9. Also Bambi, The Yearling and those other
tear jerking movies where you have time to grow to love the animal and then it gets shot like that. I know that is how they used to do it, but aren't movies supposed to be in the imaginary realm where you don't have to be reminded of such things. And of all companies to have those movies, Disney, the ones who make the most movies for kids, had to go and do those.

I'm with you. I don't like animals being hurt.

And I hate rape scenes. I still can't get The Accused out of my head.

I love that movie; but I rarely watch it in anyone's company.

37. Free Willy does that to me
in a different way. Like tears of joy instead of sadness. I can't watch The Yearling again. I promised myself I'd avoid it. It's too sad. My poor weak heart can't take it.

Child abuse nightmares seem to be broadcast at least once a week.

Once you have a kid, it's like all of them could be yours...

36. I know what you mean.
My wife sometimes gets night terrors and in some of those she wakes up in a fright, thinking that she's hearing somebody beating the shit out of our baby boy. I usually have time to make her come to her senses before the screaming starts. Fun nights. Good thing thye don't happen more than once a month.

3. "The Big Chill"
Probably for similar reasons. It replays in my nightmares sometimes. For various reasons I probably missed the entire point of the movie entirely.

I don't watch horror movies either, especially scary slasher types.

My favorite movie is Terry Gilliam's Brazil but it's sort of a bummer the modern world has actually turned out to be quite a bit like that.

21. I'm actually getting a social life!
Got my hair cut this morning (short!), then visited the builder (the lady who works in the office) and we had lunch together with her sister-in-law. It was an outdoor place and just about everyone I know was eating there! :wow: It was like living in Mayberry! I am loving it here very much. Wish you were here! :loveya:

22. Midnight Cowboy, Blow, other street con man/druggie type films
I never thought of it before now, but I never see those films, even when they sound good. Leaving Las Vegas is another one. I wanted to see, even rented it from Netflix (like Blow), but couldn't make myself watch it. Now that I think about it, it may be because of one of my brothers, who was a con artist/drug dealer/addict type, and who hurt too many people close to me. I think maybe I don't want to see anything that would try to make me feel sympathy for his lifestyle. Or maybe the memories are too painful to drag back up. Dunno, but there must be a connection.

32. Before Sunrise
Ethan Hawke's character looked and acted just like a recent (at the time) ex-boyfriend--and while some folks saw his character as charming and deep, I only saw the ex: an obnoxious, egotistical, self-involved blowhard. BLECH.

Highly amusing parallel, too--one of the characters--can't remember which, it's been so long--I think Julia Delpy's--says something like "Have you ever gone somewhere magical with someone, but you wish you had gone with someone else?" And I had just spent a week in Mexico with the asswipe. Mexico--amazing. In the company of the ex--put quite a damper on it.

Oh--and I can't tolerate recent "horror" movies that are nothing more than torture flicks.

And ever since having a kid, I can't watch movies or TV shows where children go missing and/or die.
