Poll question: Best performance from the "Woodstock" soundtrack
Edited on Wed Aug-16-06 01:04 PM by undisclosedlocation
VH2 (Ok, VH1 Classic, but still) has been running "Woodstock" a lot lately, which reminds me how much I loved some of the numbers on the soundtrack record. I'm just putting on ones from the vinyl album, though apparently a lot more are on the CD (See? http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/samples/B000002J07/ref=dp_tracks_all_1/103-0113027-6490204?ie=UTF8#disc_1)
Ok, I lied; had to put on "Ball & Chain."

3. I love John Sebastian's "I Had a Dream"
It's not a very well-known song, but I feel like it's a perfect mood-setter for the concert. It's the first track on the original three-LP set. And it's one of those rarities where I actually prefer the live version over the studio. (That stark crickets-in-the-background setting works better than the more polished version on Sebastian's debut.)

Of the options, I'd pick Richie Havens's "Motherless Child/Freedom." That's a great one.

16. Love that song
His voice is a little shaky on the Woodstock version, but it does set a mood. I am one of those weird people who have all of John's albums.

11. Hendrix' Star Spangled Banner. He took everything to a different level.
It was weird, menacing, outrageous -- a perfect signature piece for the 60s.

13. Ten Years After
Alvin Lee was never the best guitarist, but even though appearing on the same bill w/ guys like Pete Townshend and Hendrix at Woodstock he was the greatest guitarist in the world for that brief moment when 10 Years After played "Going Home"..
