Okay you know those "AutoCool" solar powered car fans???
Everytime the commercial came on I jokingly said "I WANT ONE" and my wife would laugh and basically say "No" without really saying it because she thought I was kidding.

Well as a joke I ordered one.

$14.95 PLUS Shipping and Handling. The S+H turns out is going to be like $7 but hell its a joke buy RIGHT? so why not.

Well I ordered it on July 28th. It still hasn't arrived. Two weeks ago I figured I should check on it so I pulled out my confirmation sheet and looked for a number to call--NO NUMBER. So I went to the site their direct site.

*has sound*
https://www.autocooltv.com/ppc/index.asp?id=&refcode=ppcG

I called the number that is on that page and it gave me another number to call for orders. I called it....it was a phone sex line. Seriously.

So then I thought (I did this after I ordered) Maybe I should check this out.

I googled "Autocool contact" and found this site INFOMERCIAL SCAMS

http://www.infomercialscams.com/scams/auto_cool

Not only does this thing apparently not work worth a damn (SURPRISE!) it is really a scam. See the thrid entry. They bill for more than one and often for wild amounts of money and there seems to be no way of even contacting them.

Well my wife just called me. The purchase just went through. $50.78.

Gee wasn't that a fun joke?

1. I actually thought about getting one of those. Glad I didn't.
I park on a roof for work and thought wth maybe it would help with the heat. Glad I never got around to ordering one.

4. I got caught up in one of those once...
I was ordering a 'Perfect Cookie' at the request of my sweetheart.

Four years and (If I hadn't caught it in time) $6,000.00 later, I'm really sick of it.

Do yourself a favor underpants... Renumber or cancel any CC used in the transaction,
change your phone number and if at all possible get a P.O. box.

Their next step is to call you incessantly claiming if you don't cough up extortion
money they'll turn you over to a Credit Bureau and Debt Collection Service (Which they
also operate).

There should be some way to hold the broadcast stations which play these scam ads responsible
for their content. Isn't racketeering a crime anymore?

7. My husband is a sucker for infomercials, and he thinks that
everything he sees is "great" or "fantastic" and wants one. :eyes: He insisted on ordering one of those auto fans, and I put my foot down and said, "NO! It's a piece of crap. Nothing's THAT good." :P I'm glad I did.

Sorry you and others got ripped off, but I appreciate the public service announcement. Now I can tell hubby to calm down when brings up the subject of those fans again.... :P

9. Dispute the charge
Call your credit card company and dispute the charge. You may have some way to get your money back that way.

14. Yes..as Rosie said--Dispute the charge, AND contact
your state's Attorney General.

You really should contact your credit card company since these people now have your info. You may need a new card number issued, and a block put on these creeps being able to charge anything else to you.

10. Underpants---our local tv station did an expose on Auto Cool
last night. The consumer advocate person went to a local car dealership and asked them to help test it. The result was that the car with the Auto Cool was actually 1 degree hotter than the one without (113 F as opposed to 112 F). The technician they interviewed from the dealership said what I've been saying all along---you can move the air around, but you have to chill the air to cool it off. Also, the consumer advocate said that she had no luck getting through on the phone to get the 30-day money-back guarantee and warned people not to buy them.

My father-in-law, unfortunately, is really into "as seen on TV" crap as he gets older. He just turned 80, and these infomercials have really suckered him in. He has ordered not one but TWO Auto Cools. Hubby called to warn him after the story aired, but it was too late. :(

What a piece of crap....

I don't remembere where I got it, but it was definitely a piece of junk. Didn't cool the car at all.

15. Thank you for your sacrifice.
I, too, thought that seemed like a neat gadget....that probably wouldn't work.
