Any Scooter Freaks Here?
Like Vespa, Honda, Chinese etc.

Tell me all you know.
I'm thinking of touring Europe next summer - time/speed no problem.
I'm retired

I want to repeat the VW experience I had 30 or so years ago.
Gimme some hints.

Peace and all that stuff

Mick

4. What a great trip! Can I go with you?
:P

I have a Yamaha Riva that goes on the road and a Honda Spree on the farm. I think the scooter size would have a lot to do with your pleasure factor - a really small scooter can't take a lot of stuff (clothes, camera, personal stuff etc.) whereby a larger one can be equipped to carry more things.

There are more scooters in regular use in Europe so there's a higher visibility factor but you should know that most drivers anywhere on the planet aren't very aware/considerate of people on motorbikes of any sort. I know for me, driving to work on a routine run, I drive very defensively - focusing on the road. If I were sightseeing and not driving defensively on a scooter, well, that might be something else to consider....

And then there's rain - a drag for me personally although I've seen other riders who seem to handle it without a care. You'd figure out where you fall in the rain category pretty quick: one of those who has to wait it out or one of those who can bully through. You say you're not in a hurry so I'm sure this won't be a huge problem for you other than if you are stuck on the road when a rainstorm hits.

Just some thoughts off the top of my head.... I'm sure I'm missing things. I haven't taken any kind of vacation on a motorbike but I'll bet there are others who have done this kind of thing here at DU.

5. I've got a '05 Bajaj Chetak, and love it
Picked it up a year ago due to high gas prices, and just love riding it whenever possible, which generally means when it isn't wet outside.

Lovely bike, handles well, very stable to ride, gets 100 mpg, cruises at 55-60mph. Four speed manual tranny. They're the top selling scooter in the world, they come from India. You can find out more about them from <http://www.bajajusa.com>
