Good evening, good evening,
In a few weeks I will start what is my last year of teaching high school before returning to graduate school to pursue an MBA with a concentration in finance or accounting. My question to those of you who have recently completed this program, who work in companies now, or who do the hiring--which specialization (finance or accounting) looks like it has the most potential for a) hiring out of graduate school, b) the better career path from hire until retire, and c) provides, well, the most "security" for those who have to support someone else monetairily.
I know a lot of you will say it depends on what I want, but I have narrowed my search, after an exhaustive amount of research, to either finance or accounting. I am not looking for which will be more fun on a personal level, as I already know I can do both--I'm looking for opinions from different people on where my best chance at gainful and long-term employment lies. My only regret is that I can not start graduate school this year (I need early admissions to qualify for a fellowship.), nor have I had much luck in convincing firms to employ a teacher who has not yet started the MBA program (I live in Upstate NY, and our business world is not exactly healthy at this point.). Regardless, the more planning I can do now, the sooner I can get my life in order for next fall.
Thanks to anyone who answers, and I'll reply to any questions asked.
