Poll question: Your favorite Carpenters song

..................................................................................
"Oh, no...not the Carpenters! I hate the Carpenters!" - Sam Neill's character in John Carpenter's "In The Mouth of Madness".

4. "She Ain't Heavy, She's My Sister"
Oh, sorry. Seriously, their entire album "Close To You" is great listening. I don't find it sappy or sentimental at all. Not a bad song on the entire album:

We've Only Just Begun
Love Is Surrender
Maybe It's You
Reason to Believe
Help
Close To You
Baby It's You
I'll Never Fall In Love Again
Crescent Noon
Mr. Guder
I Kept On Loving You
Another Song

8. Tough to choose!
I voted for "It's Going to Take Some Time", only because I happened to be singing it yesterday. But depending on my mood, the day, the phase of the moon, my favorite Carpenters song varies. Can't vote for "Calling Occupants" because I'm a HUUUUUUGE Klaatu fan, so of course I prefer their original version.

Awww, this thread reminds me of my dear departed dad--he LOVED the Carpenters. Hi dad! :hi:

18. which reminds me of Annie Lennox
Artist: Annie Lennox Lyrics
Song: No More I Love You's Lyrics

I used to be lunatic from the gracious days
I used to be woebegone and so restless nights
My aching heart would bleed for you to see
Oh but now...
(I don't find myself bouncing round whistling
and fortunes to make me cry)
No more "I love you's"
The language is leaving me
No more "I love you's"
Changes are shifting outside the word
(The lover speaks about the monsters)
I used to have demons in my room at night
Desire,despair,desire,so many monsters
Oh but now...
(I don't find myself bouncing round whistling
and fortunes to make me cry)
No more "I love you's"
The language is leaving me
No more "I love you's"
The language is leaving me in silence
No more "I love you's"
Changes are shifting outside the word
They were being really crazy
They were on the come.
And you know what mammy?
Everybody was being really crazy.
Uh huh.
The monsters are crazy.
There are monsters outsides.
No more "I love you's"
The language is leaving me
No more "I love you's"
The language is leaving me in silence
No more "I love you's"
Changes are shifting outside the word
Outside the word

24. Karen put more subtle emotion into that song with her voice
that the entire multi-octave warble chicks like Mariah Carey have put into their entire catalog.

Perfect song. perfect voice, perfect arrangement.

Karen--gone far, far too soon.

It's simple, but it really showcases how rich her voice was.

21. This Masquerade and Merry Christmas, Darling
Edited on Tue Aug-15-06 08:33 PM by 1monster
George Benson did a very jazzy version of This Masquerade after the Caprenters did, and it was good, but I prefer the Carpenter's version. And Merry Christmas, Darling is my favorite Christmas song.

This Masquerade

Are we really happy with
This lonely game we play
Looking for the right words to say
Searching but not finding
Understanding anyway
We're lost in this masquerade

Both afraid to say we're just too far away
From being close together from the start
We tried to talk it over
But the words got in the way
We're lost inside this lonely game we play

(*) Thoughts of leaving disappear
Everytime I see your eyes
No matter how hard I try
To understand the reason
Why we carry on this way
We're lost in a masquerade

We tried to talk it over
But the words got in the way
We're lost inside this lonely game we play

Repeat (*)
We're lost in a masquerade

Merry Christmas, Darling - Carpenters

Greeting cards have all been sent
The Christmas rush is through
But I still have one wish to make
A special one for you

Merry Christmas darling
We're apart that's true
But I can dream and in my dreams
I'm Christmas-ing with you

Holidays are joyful
There's always something new
But every day's a holiday
When I'm near to you
The lights on my tree
I wish you could see
I wish it every day
Logs on the fire
Fill me with desire
To see you and to say

That I wish you Merry Christmas
Happy New Year, too
I've just one wish
On this Christmas Eve
I wish I were with you

Instrumental Interlude

Logs on the fire
Fill me with desire
To see you and to say
That I wish you Merry Christmas
Happy New Year, too
I've just one wish
On this Christmas Eve
I wish I were with you
I wish I were with you

(Merry, Merry, Merry Christmas
Merry Christmas - Darling)

23. That'd have to be their cover of "Honolulu City Lights"
which, to my knowledge, I have never heard. But just the idea that the New Haven duo would cover one of our local classics kind of rules.
