Fender bender question- never had one until yesterday.
I rubbed up against another vehicle while trying to squeeze into a gas pump yesterday. I put a small dent (less than 4 inches long an 1/4 inch deep) on the car and left a large paint mark.
The driver called the cops and he filled out an accident report. He said we could pick up the report and turn it into our insurance companies.
I have two questions. If the damage is less than the deductible will my insurance guy still handle the details then let me know how much I have to pay?
My second question is the extent of the repairs. The other car had damage to its rear bumper from a previous incident. How do I know I will only be charged for the damage I did. I want to pay for the damage I did but not for every ding and dent on the entire car.

1. If the damage is consistent with the police report, you'll pay for it.
(Or your insurance company will.)

If the damage isn't anywhere near where the police report said the other guy got hit, you won't get charged for it.

As for the deductible: The insurance company will still handle the details (at least if your insurance company is anything like mine).

2. Thanks, I always worry about things like that.
If it were my car and I actually took it to a body shop I would have them take care of all the rest of the dents and dings. I just hope the body shop doesn't "over-estimate" the cost of my damage to cover repairing the whole car.
I didn't even feel the collision and the damage is very minor.
