Disgruntled Woman Hits Customer's With Car At McDonald's

ATHENS, Ga. Athens-Clarke County police are looking for a disgruntled McDonald's customer who ran into two other customers with her car after a dispute over who was next in line to order breakfast.

Police say 34-year-old Melinda Ann Thomas and 51-year-old Linda Ann Thomas were standing in a crowded line about 8:30 a-m Saturday as they waited to order breakfast. A cashier opened a new line and they stepped to the front of it -- a move that angered at least one customer waiting for her chance to order.

Witnesses told police the woman left the restaurant before the Thomases and stayed in the parking lot, sitting in her dark blue Jeep Cherokee.

As the Thomases made their way to their car, witnesses said the woman pulled out of her parking space, backed up and then sped toward the ladies -- striking them both with the passenger side of the Jeep. The report says neither woman was injured severely.

Police are looking for the woman on charges of aggravated assault.

33. Thanks for the support ZW! I live in Athens and I can say that I've NEVER

heard of anything like this ever happening here since I've lived here (on and off since 1981.) Maybe the excessive heat (95-100 degrees with 70% - 100% humidity and heat indexes of up to 106 degrees) may have had something to do with it. Although, on Saturday afternoon it did rain and cool off, Saturday morning was pretty hot and muggy.

People are generally very polite and friendly here in the South. However, here in our city, we have many students from all over Georgia, the country and the world along with many people from other counties who are affiliated with UGA. We are also a major metropolitan area which serves a 12 county region with shopping, schools, colleges, services, hospitals and entertainment.

I hope the idiot turns themselves in. What a stupid and dangerous thing to do. :(

PS: The US Navy Supply Corps School, which is located here, is being closed. :(

One of my very best friends was born in Athens, and is one of the nicest and gentlest souls you would ever meet. I lived in the south - two locations - for many years, and have no horror stories other than the humidity you speak of. :-)

People are people - and there are plenty of mean and angry Americans everywhere, sadly. But more importantly, there is also a greater number of good people, and we shouldn't forget that. :toast:

edit: Athens is a liberal, blue city suroounded by rural, red counties with no fast food joints, bars or decent restaurants. So, everyone from the rural rubes to the wealthy white flight suburbanites come to my fair city to shop, eat and drink (they live in counties where beer and wine are only sold in stores, no liquor is sold in any store and no restaurants are allowed to serve any alchool at all.)

Police have a suspect in the case of a woman who intentionally ran down two other women in the parking lot of a McDonald's in southeastern Clarke County on Saturday morning after they fought about who was first in line inside the fast-food restaurant.

The suspect, who was alone, was described as white, in her mid-20s, about 5-feet, 7-inches tall, weighing 150 pounds with brown hair and wearing a gray T-shirt and gray jogging pants.

Saturday's assault was "highly unusual," said McKeel, who couldn't recall a similar parking lot attack happening here.

But the assault is reminiscent of a tragic episode in Covington in May, when a man - later charged with murder - repeatedly ran over a family of five as they left a McDonald's, killing a 2-year-old girl.

Witnesses sought

Athens-Clarke police are asking anyone who witnessed the assault or has information about it to call Det. Jeff Clark at [phone], extension 303.

When I worked at a McDonalds and some guy stood at the far end of the counter where the sundae machine was and wanted a sundae instead of getting in line. The manager told him politely that he would have to wait until he was finished with the customers ahead of him. He didn't like that and left, about a half hour later we got our first ever bomb threat.
I know things have gotten bad at McDonalds since Ray Kroc croaked but I sure am glad I don't have to work in a job where I have to deal with customers.
