It really is abuse of women to think that being that skinny is attractive and what they need to do to be successful.

I heard recently that these ultra thin women are eating less than 800 calories a day. They are not only starving their bodies but their brains.

She looks just awful. I hope she gets the help she needs for this before it's too late. I recall reading that her father is very concerned about her weight loss. I know that anorexia is an illness with it's roots in poor self image, but what the hell was wrong with the way she looked before? Did she really think that she was over weight? Incredibly sad that she feels the need to succumb to societal pressure to be so freakishly thin.

Having money is certainly advantage since the best eating disorder programs are often pricey ($1000 per day or more). It does sound like she realizes that she has a problem, which is the first step. She should not hesitate to go into treatment full time rather than mess around seeing a doctor and a nutritionist on am outpatient basis. That is what us poor working people have to do, but she has other options that do not require sacrafice on her or her family's part.
For those of you who misunderstand anorexia, it really isn't about society exactly. Messages about weight loss, dieting, and being thin certainly are triggering. They tell us that we are virtuous in restriction and being thin. They tell us that this is being successful. Ultimately, though, it comes from within as do other addictions and obsessions.
