It was great!! I love those stories and the old road cafes...I was highly impressed. Can you imagine how much fun they had doing that show? And Alton is a nut. And he's so cool helping them fix the food, getting his hands dirty. I love that guy!!

I ever watch the Food Channel. The one gets on my nerves is Emeril, the guy puts garlic or hot sauce on a dish and he gets a standing ovation it's ridiculous. Racheal can cook for me any time.

3. Food Network has always been hit or miss for me

I love Iron Chef (I know it's blasphemy, but I prefer the American version), and I like Alton's new show, but a lot of the network's shows are nonsense (and always have been). I don't like Rachel Ray, and I can watch the Pillsbury Bake-off only so many times...

ON EDIT: Oh, and Marc Summers' "let's tour the candy factory" show... UGH! :puke:

And what I like about her stuff is that I can create it from memory.

BUT, the motor-mouth thing drives me almost completely crazy, she NEVER stops talking! Now, as for the new shows, I don't know if the trailers I catch are for new shows, but, the "dude, this is awesome" slant doesn't exactly draw this baby boomer in. :)

I did make the recipes but substituted Tate & Lyles Golden syrup for the WTF Maple syrup and butter and canola oil for the WTF olive oil.

22. I was just talking today with a guy who

went to a taping of Emeril's show. He said they have cooks off to the side and during the break if Emeril has screwed something up, they just hand him a good version of whatever he is making. LOL.

I don't care much for the Food Network because the focus is much more on making the cook a star then on cooking. And some of them have marginal talent. Its unbelievable to me that someone like Rachael Ray can have so many shows when she isn't even that good a cook. And her catchy little phrases like EVOO or "Stoop"--what the hell is that? There already is a word to describe thick soup. Its called STEW. I wish she would just speak normal English. And that woman that doesn't even like to cook. What the hell is that? 30 percent home made, 70 percent store bought, 100% crap.
There are only a few that I can even stand to watch anymore. Give me PBS anytime...Test Kitchen, Lidia, Jaques Pepin. Those people can cook and don't feel the need to make jackasses out of themselves either.

26. One thing to remember with Emeril is that he does all his shows in one day

He flies into NYC and does 8 shows in one day; so you gotta cut him some slack for having the staff there helping out, otherwise it would never work out.

And he said on Regis the other day that one of the reasons he came up with "BAM!" was that the camera guys would get sleepy in the afternoon after four or five shows, and the BAMs helped keep them alert.

love mario, bobby, every day italian, barefoot countessa, alton brown, i like some of that wacky country lady's cooking, some of emeril's stuff..

i really watch it for the cooking shows -- i don't like the whole rock and roll star morph chef thing they've got goin on -- that's annoying.
