1. The closest choice you had was "maid."
But I don't really have one of those........

I do have a cleaning lady, however...she comes every two weeks, and I love her!

35. Same for me
No maid but it was closest to cleaning lady so I voted for maid. Except mine is a cleaning man sometimes.

2. I used to be a housekeeper.
The best way to clean it really is the tried and true rag on the floor every week or two and then spot mop the rest of the time.

Best cleaner, IMO-vinegar, a bit of dishsoap and water. Strips any build up off the floor and seems to work well at taking the grease and dirt up. It doesn't look as shiny but it really does pull up the dirt better than almost anything else. If you want more shine wipe the floor dry instead of air drying it.

24. Why, it's not mean at all for a DRY mop.
First you sprinkle the cleaner on the floor. We use catnip. Then let the cat clean it up. Works every time.

Now wet mopping with a cat, that would be just mean. :P

29. Hey- that's a good idea!
Mea culpa!

Sounds like kitty enjoys himself ( herself?)
and the floor gets cleaned.

;-)

5. I get down on my hands and knees about once a week...
and use a scrub brush and a rag, then go over it with a mop in between. I use one of those weird little twisty-mop thingies...a Velita or something like that. It's red.

I hate floor day. Invariably it's the one day of the week when soda or juice or watermelon or popsicles or something sticky gets spilled.

After I'm done.

Doesn't matter what day of the week I do it, either.

11. Nothing, I repeat, nothing is worse than dried International Delight...
...creamer.

Hubby cannot seem to make it from the fridge to the coffee cup without getting that shit all over the place.

14. I dunno...I drink mine as nature intended it.
My kids can't seem to breathe without spilling something, though. And heaven forfend they wipe it up. "Huh, whaaa...?"

The absolute worst thing to clean up is dried Crest. That stuff's like cement on the floor...the counter...the cabinet...whatever it dries on. Takes a chisel to get it off.

:banghead:

12. Does anything even HIT the floor?
Edited on Sun Aug-13-06 07:14 PM by liberalitch
One time Dave Barry wrote of the "invisible historical dog marker".

Once a morsel hits the floor the dog will return to that spot because... "hey, the chicken skin was there last time.... might come back."

13. Yeah, they aren't allowed in the kitchen
while I'm cooking. They sit in the doorway, waiting till I'm done.

16. Mrs R.
And before anyone starts yelling at me, she wouldn't LET me do it.

I don't clean to her standards. Nobody does. We'd never be able to hire a "cleaning lady."

17. Heh.
Here it's like that with laundry. I don't want anyone else doing it. Floors are different, though. Just a quick once-over between scrubbings would be nice.

I used to think I wanted a cleaning lady. Until I realized that I'd probably tear around like a crazy woman, trying to clean up before she got there.

18. It's a combination for me.
I use the sponge mop once or twice a month, and a scrub brush weekly around StirFry's food dish. I use a broom, then a Swiffer-style mop after nightly kitchen puttering.

19. A rant about sponge mops
So my sponge mop runs out a few months ago. An O-Cedar, type M. Luckily, I have another refill. The refill wears out after a few months, And I can't find another one. I look at the Jewel, at K Mart, no luck. So I buy another sponge mop, a Mop O Matic this time. No refills there, I take special note of the refill type. A few months later, go looking for the refill for Mop O Matic. No where to be found!
So I buy a THIRD mop, an O- Cedar. This time I buy two refills, lest this one be discontinued too!!

And it never fails to piss me off.

Why is so damned difficult to find replacement sponges?

It's really the only way to get it clean.

32. Yeah, they really can wear out pretty quickly...especially with certain
applications. But I really like them for cleaning the shower surround, and for those high-traffic areas on vinyl floors.

34. I spill some food and yell, "Clean up crew."
My cats come and clean it for me. Well, that does happen on occasion. Otherwise, I sort of spot clean with a dirty towel. Home cleaning goddess, I am not. I desperately need a maid.
