Knebworth-1979. The funkiest version I ever heard Jimmy do.

12. Sorry, the studio version is best for me.
Been a Led Head from day one, following the Yardbirds into the New Yardbirds. I love Zeppelin like no other group, save for the Beatles, but in all honesty their live performances were subpar. I saw them in St. Louis back in the mid '70's, and I was so excited to finally see them, live, yet disappointed to a large degree, because their performance was typically subpar. Most of their performances were, really, very sad to say. But they did put out a great live concert for Phil Graham in 1969 on the Berkely campus. The recording is definitely worth listening to.

5. You are so right.
And, you could line up most of the so-called bands of the 70s and 80s, and Zep would slay them all dead.

6. I cant for the life of me understand the Led Zep haters on this board.
They were they band that thousands of other bands modeled themselves after.

Even though Jimmy Page stole most of his riffs from the Delta Bluesmasters, I'll give him a pass just on his skill and stage presence.

Led Zep Rules!

Besides, who else do you know that plays a triple neck guitar?

13. As a long-time Zep fanatic, I would have to agree...saw them twice in
1977.
"Kashmir" and "Black Dog" are two of my favorites, and yes, "The Rain Song" is just classic...

15. Saw them in Old Boston Garden, 1972. $3.50.
Then in Tampa Stadium 1977, where a riot broke out after the show was shortened due to rain ( Plant announced to the crowd to save their ticket stubs and come back the next nigh for the whole show.)
Idiot drunks burned 10 or so police cars. Riot squads came in and it got ugly. The next day the Mayor of Tampa cancelled the show citing that the band "brings out the worst in people"...blah blah blah...

16. I saw them in Mpls and in St. Paul in 1977, and was on my way to
Tampa with a friend (hitchhiking, naturally!) for the show there, but was robbed at gunpoint on the way down (in Nashville TN) and got away with our lives and the $20 I had hidden in my sock...

18. The riot killed the Tampa show. It was sad.
That was the only show in the state of Florida in 77. They sold 80,000 tix for that one.
When the show started the sky above the stadium got black and after that I never saw so much rain fall on one place at one time. A deluge! Water was flowing down the concrete stairs like a waterfall! Everyone was soaked. The mixing boards were shorting out and they had to stop the show. Zep made an effort to please the crowd by playing the next night. Its a shame that a group of drunken assholes ruined it for everyone.

19. Drunken assholes can ruin a lot of things.
One took the life of my daughter when he decided to get behind the wheel of a car.

Not a big fan of drunken assholes. Or assholes in general.

20. I feel sorry for kids nowadays..
... the losers that pass for recording artists now would have never broke out of the local club scene in the 70s.
