"The Values Voters" Contract With Congress
Heaven help us if this becomes the new direction our Congress takes. It would deny GLBT people any protection from hate crimes and change the First Amendment to allow anyone whose religious beliefs are against homosexuality to do whatever, whenever they want to any GLBT people with no repercussions.

This article even has Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-Texas) bragging that he "refused to sign an American Bar Association code of conduct when he was a Texas judge because it banned "prejudice on the basis of sexual orientation."

Here is a link to the next challenge we may face during elections in the coming years:

1. Gee, maybe they don't want our tax money anymore
If I'm not going to have equal protection under the law, let alone equal rights, I'm not paying a freaking dime to them. If we don't count as citizens why should we have the obligations of citizens? Just let them try me for the "crime" and I'll give them an earful.

2. very good post
I agree with you, it amazes me the battles that the GLBT have to face. It reminds me of the civil rights movement of the 60s. As a matter or fact, I believe the GLBT is the civil rights movement of our current generation. I believe, it was almost two years ago, someone on DU posted a bunch of quotes of high up politicians, on how they view Inter-Racial marriage, and every single quote matched, what I heard politicians spewing forth against the GLBT community...

3. Thank you
I just can't get over this garbage where people think they should be able to discriminate against, assault and even batter gays because of their religious beliefs. I can't imagine I'd get off scott free for assaulting a black person by claiming that my religious beliefs held that they were inherently evil. :eyes:

5. I fear the conservatives.
Many of them are still proud of themselves for turning German Shepherds loose on children who merely wanted an equal opportunity at a decent education. And many of them are just as proud of themselves that they opened up fire hoses on those people who were doing nothing more than asking for access to knowledge. Where will it end? I keep thinking about that saying about when they came for this group and that group, I wasn't part of that group so I didn't say anything.

6. Exactly...
"I keep thinking about that saying about when they came for this group and that group, I wasn't part of that group so I didn't say anything."

This statement is so damn true. And it amazes me, that still some of these minority groups do NOT work together. The voices of the downtrodden would be so much LOUDER if those groups, minority in nature, would stand up to the dominant culture. I see a lot of examples of the complete opposite...

For example, my wife is in charge of an Affinity group at her job, she is American Indian, and she cannot get any help at all, from any other Affinity group except GLBT, and all the other groups wont' touch/help the GLBT group...meaning, that if the American Indian Group wants to put forth a clinic on stereotypes in games/media/tv, the African American group give them crap, the latino group, the asian group, the womans group all give them crap...the only help they get is primarily from the GLBT group, and it amazes me that these groups aren't more cohesive, but I do believe its an interesting social play being put on...

The most looked down group is the GLBT Affinity group, but those folks fight tooth and nail for everything, and my wife and her group throw their weight behind them 100%. I believe my wife said, statistically, the smallest minority would be a Gay Eldery American Indian Woman....

7. It would be very effective if the groups did decide to all work together.
Just look at Al Gore's populism platform in 2000. He rallied a lot of different people behind the same cause for a purpose and if things hadn't gotten so screwed up in Florida, he would be President now for it. The idea does make perfect sense.

Also, I have often wondered how I could get Christian and other religious Liberals to form a coalition with gay groups to form a PAC or some other organization that could at least form an anti-suicide hotline for people. I mean we are talking about the most passionate and compassionate groups of people. Who better to work for the common good of people?

4. I hear you.
You make a great point there. That really does sound like a case of civil disobedience. Why go along with the rules if the rules are specifically set up against us?
