I want to run away.
I want to cash in everything I have - book a flight somewhere or jump in my car and drive, drive, drive. I want to start a new life somewhere. I want freedom and quiet and all the choices to be MINE.

It's good to have a fantasy. (sigh)

8. I would be a huge BASTARD if I did it.
My spouse is ill - we've been dealing with cancer for the past 10 years. I just want peace and quiet, solitude, and yes, hopefully some romance down the line. I feel awful for even having these thoughts.

That's a tough thing to deal with. No wonder you want to run away. Probably should talk to someone supportive. I really feel for you, my friend. If I'd known that, I wouldn't have been so glib.

25. Oh no - I didn't take your remarks as being glib at all!
Anne Tyler's "Ladder of Years" is a book about a woman who walks away from everything and starts a new life. I've always been intrigued by that concept.

I know I won't do it - but it is my fantasy.

I admire you for having done so. I hope everything works out well for you.

6. me too
and if the wind blows the right way in a couple of months I just might. I have three months to get my car engine light turned off or my tag is going to be pulled by the state. If it doesn't get turned off that's $9000 that I paid for that car down the drain and no car. I've taken it to many mechanics and all say nothing is wrong with it. But it won't pass inspection with the light on, and no one around here is willing to put it through because they just cracked down and have been fining people $15,000 for passing bad cars.

So, I might have to pick up and move, which I would do in a heartbeat anyway. But I'm getting too old for it.

10. yeah it is.
it's not something I can pull the tag and fix and even have it towed to an inspection station either, because it has to be disconnected from the battery to get the light turned off, reconnected, driven, allowed to completely cool down (sit overnight) and driven again, usually around 25 miles, to clear it out so the code shows again and the see if the light turns back on. Apparently it's pretty common with this make and model of car; I've found alot of people on the internet with the same problem, but no one has found a way to fix it. I'm about to give up...it shows how desperate I am that I am willing to consider moving to Alabama (because that's whats' being offered) and they don't have vehicle inpsection.

20. I'm a bad liberal aren't I?
I'm seriously thinking about, if I don't move, fake selling the car to someone and registering it in another state. I have someone in mind, but I would have to keep the title because they tend to dabble in narcotics every now and then, and I don't want to lose it to a title loans company for a saturday night dalliance. I don't know what I am going to do.

9. Murdered someone last night?
The last place you want to run is mexico (if you murdered someone) unless you're a mexican national because "they" will find you, cheapest place to "escape" to (if you murdered someone) is Canada, its probably not that hard to make up a new identity there :D

Good luck Sir. :P

19. I decided that was the best thing I can do for my sanity.

I've traveled to south Florida three times this summer. On this trip I rented a place for the winter. If it works out as I hope it will, I'll be selling my house within the next few years and making a change in my life. I'm tired of all the drama that is surrounding me at home!
It seems like I'm the only one who understands if_it's_problem_do_something_about_it_or_quit_complaining!

I think I understand how you feel.

22. It isn't easy but it's going to be the best for everyone eventually.

Frodo may change a lot. She'll be hearing wild parrots and she's nearing sexual maturity. I just have to be patient with her and learn how to clip her wings myself. I'd like to keep my trike if I can but I am willing to say goodbye to everything (except Frodo) if it's necessary. I'll probably sell my tracker and my truck for a new car with an extended warranty.

Thanks for your support, CMW. :loveya: I really don't have anyone to talk to about my decision except for my friends here at DU.

and live on Michael Stipe's street in one of the really neat old timey houses and be best friends with him. Then he would introduce me to Mike Mills (of course, I'd be 20 years older than I am now :P) and we'd go on a few dates & then get married someplace with all the R.E.M. guys there and.....*sigh*

Dayumm...if only i was 20 years older!!! And any of this had a chance of happening! :D :P

35. I have had a lot of those feelings when I was
between 20-25, and still have them rarely at present. Most of the time though, I was just tempted to sell all my things, grab some tools, and a gun, and go live in the mountains, somewhat similiar to the Last of the Dogmen movie...

It was a phase I went though, and it was painful for me at least. It felt like my blood was boiling then, it was so hard to find purpose during those years of my life...

37. I didn't feel constrained
but I do know the feeling of living a constrained life...my main issue, when I was younger was finding purpose...at the time, it seemed the only purpose I had was to work, sleep, eat, and work, eat and sleep...to me it was a pointless way to live...and the emotions of living a life like that, ate at me constantly...

I have a constrained life now, where I don't have the saem freedom I had when I was single...I have a lot more responsibility now, but I do have purpose now, and I don't mind the feelings of being constrained, albiet at times, the feeling on constrainment is to much to bear, but those feelings usualy only come to bear a few times a year...so far at least.

39. oh yeah, its happening someday
just not today...:) I had a lot of those issues when I was in Alaska, and thats why I left in the first place....:) Now, I'm all responsible, house payment, working, mortgage, and all of that...hence, at times I feel constrained...because I have all of these responsibility. And being in SW Missouri is a constrainment at times, usually when I'm feeling low I bag big time on this place, but I just need to get it out...:)

But within the next 20yrs, my wife and I will be back in Alaska. I dont think I can handle living in Missouri for the rest of my life...if I had to, I would probably divorce my wife right now, but we are both in the same boat about relocating, and when it will happen.

45. life did...:)
Went back to college in 2002, and hooked up with my wife in 2003, and graduated from college...than decided to make a life down here in SW Missouri. My wife and her family are down here, her job, everything, and I thought it would be easier for me to move down here, than to uproot her back up to Alaska. So, thats what I did. My wife and I got hooked up through mutual friends at our Uni, and here we are...married for over two years, been togehter for over 3yrs, and known each other for over 11 yrs...house, car, all that crap...:)
