and the tornado warning sirens are screaming. I live in a mobile home and i shake in my shoes every time I hear those sirens.

1. I hate you are going through that, but
I'm glad it's not us this time. We have had bad storms all week with hail and damaging wind warnings. I have spent much of this week cringing on the floor. A tree snapped less than 25 feet from my head as I lay cringing too.

I too live in a mobile home. I grew up in a brick house, so I had no idea how these things toss and turn and make noises in strong winds. It takes guts of steel to live in a mobile home with the weather the way it is nowadays. Number 1 on my list of things to do when I get a job; build a nice sturdy underground shelter to retreat to. The weather isn't letting up or getting any better. In fact, I think it's getting worse.

And the weatherliars call this a cold front. More like a pissed off mother nature front. I cringe every time I see a limb move on the trees outside. I still haven't adjusted to living in a mobile home and probably never will.

Stay safe, please. I know it is hard to leave your home, but hit the deck and keep safe if you need to.

2. The rain has just about stopped and the sirens have shut up.
Scares me to death when I hear those things. And where I live is called "Tornado Alley." I wish I had the option to build an underground shelter, but I am living on a rented lot in a mobile home park and I doubt that the management would allow me to dig up the ground.

Yes, it's really scary when you live in a mobile home and a storm hits. My house is surrounded by huge trees and when there is a lot of wind, I hear all kinds of things hitting the roof. Just one strong wind to hit those trees and I am toast.

3. Not to mention a strong wind hitting the mobile home itself.
I have a tin roof. It's the only thing about this single wide that I really don't like, other than the obvious safety issue during bad storms. My stepfather was talking about how glorious his childhood was with the peace and calm he felt when he heard rain hitting the tin roof of his house. Well...Hail does more damage to a tin roof than it does to a shingled roof and the weather is much more ferocious than it was 40 years ago when he was a kid. Ya know?

That may well be #2 on my list of things I plan on doing if this place survives until I get out of college and get work; replace tin roof with shingles and a nice thick layer of wood between me and the golf ball sized hail that could hit at any moment.
