Truck overturns, spilling penguins onto Texas highway

DRIVERS on a Texas highway probably thought they were seeing a mirage when they found themselves dodging penguins on a hot day.

A truck transporting zoo animals overturned early on Tuesday, spilling 24 penguins, an octopus and tropical fish onto the highway, the authorities said.

'We had a penguin wreck,' said Mr Richard Buchanan from the Department of Public Safety.

Three penguins that landed on the highway were killed by passing cars and one died in the crash, the authorities said. Another penguin suffered a broken wing. :cry:
