Any DU'ers in Virginia?
My wife and I live in San Diego, but I recently accepted a job offer in Richmond. I won't lie ... I am a little worried about the political climate in Virginia. I want to do all I can but I'm afraid it is hopeless.

Please ring in and let me know I'll see some BLUE in the VA.

1. I've lived here since 1987
Except for 4 years I spent in Europe

There's a mixture of styles in this state. Pretty much everyone gets along.

A few other DUers live here as well

3. There are some very good DUers in the Richmond area
Midlodemocrat & Underpants to name a couple.

I found them to be very helpful when I was considering a position in Richmond about 18 months ago. The job fell through, but I remained interested in the area.

4. Thank you ...
Good to hear. I think I'm fearing the worst but I'm also excited to find more opposition. Is that weird?

5. Isn't San Diego pretty red?
I think Richmond itself is a blue city, but you'll likely find more reddishness in the suburbs.

6. It is, but
we have Boxer, at least.

I'm not sold on Warner and, even in my district it doesn't take too much to find progressive friends. I'm worried that I'll have to do the convincing in VA, but I could be wrong.

7. On the plus side...
real estate is probably quite a bit cheaper around Richmond.

13. Are you kidding me? Richmond is still fighting the Civil War.
Racial tensions tend to be very high. The place is still segregated for christs sakes.

9. Virginia can be very red and very blue
Charlottesville would be the most liberal place in VA... parts of NOVA and Richmond city are quite blue. The area around Richmond can be very, very red (as can some of the areas around Cville). You are actually in one of the better parts of the state, and will find alot of the Richmond/Charlottesville corridor to be far bluer than San Diego.

State and Feeral elected officals-wise? Oh-boy...

10. I live just west of Richmond in Midlothian.
There are some blue parts, and for the most part, it is a great place to live. I came from CT, very blue to VA, partially blue.

Let me know if I can help you out with a realtor. underpants lives in the west end, swimboy lives in Richmond and there are a ton of others in the area.

NewJeffCT had a good experience with my realtor friend here.
