have you ever wondered what it would feel like to die?

3. An honest one.
I'm not trying to provoke anyone, and I am not trying to glamorize it, but seriously...

...haven't you ever wondered?

8. My MIL is a RN in ICU...
...but your response reminds me of a quote from the show "House" (pilot episode)

I searched the Internet(s) but couldn't find the exact quote, but it was something like "there is no such thing as dying with dignity..."

I agree with you. Death is a terrible thing.

9. One time I did.

Are you going to drive your car into a big tree?

My brother did.

He didn't live to tell the tale.

2. what I think of is that "Amazing Stories" skit by Steven Spielberg (80s)
Where the people are saying 'go to the light, go to the light', when the person is dying, and then it turns out the light is one of those overheads in a delivery room and they are being born again.

Not even a ten minute cigarrette break or nothing. No fair, not interested.

7. probably the feeling varies depending on the situation......
some people go painlessly and peacefully. others suffer horribly.

but yeah, i'm sure we've all thought about it and wondered what it feels like. it's just human nature to think about stuff like that. it's one of the things so many of us fear the most, so we think about it.

12. I know the answer too.
It depends on HOW you die. There seem to be two ways to go. One is slowly and painfully and the other is quick and, most people seem to think, painless. No one has ever come back and said either way. I'll assume it hurts like hell and live.

15. To be honest, I don't dwell on it...
I figure if my time comes, it comes. Until then, I guess I'll make a vow, to live my life to the fullest and simply not worry about it.

16. No I haven't
I have died enough emotionally in my life that actual death is trivial.
And I happen to believe that (unless for medical reason's) Suicide is a cowards way out!

18. How could you not?
It is natural to wonder what exits beyond yourself. Without having met you, and without having the necessary qualifications for diagnosis, you are most likely normal.

Edited on Sat Aug-12-06 06:49 AM by caty
there is always a chance your life can get better. Once you are dead, all your chances are gone.

20. Yes, it's too bad that when most people are dying they
are too sick to let us know what's going on inside them and around them. When my uncle Mike was dying of AIDS he would reach up toward the ceiling. My sister said that was his reaching up to the angels ready to take him to heaven. I wish Mike could have told me what he was seeing and experiencing.

22. oh yeah, it is a favorite fantasy of mine
the where, why, and how of it are endlessly fascinating to me. And I am one of these that believes it is a gateway to an afterlife and I find that to be awesomely amazing in all its various forms.

I do NOT have a death wish however, that would imply that I go out and TRY to make it happen, which I don't. I keep it as a little fantasy that I like to look at from time to time...

23. In all my dreams where I died, it was horrible
I've passed out from having blood taken and that was horrible. As I understand it, when most people pass out from blood taken both their heart rate and blood pressure drop (unlike some other pass outs where just the blood pressure drops). I suppose that it could feel similiar aside from whatever else caused death.
Dying during surgery where one is already under probably wouldn't feel like much physically since you are already unconcious.
There might be spirtual changes ( leaving one's body, going towards the bright light towards what is understood as heaven, being reborn into another body, or other sorts of things). I don't know what that would feel like.

24. I can tell you
Not that I've died, but studied it pretty hard because I had the same questions you do.

Let's assume you go in an awake state, but with less pain. To be awake means to be in some amount of pain, as your body will tell you something isn;t right and that's what the pain is.

So let's just say you go by suffocation. Your lungs scream for air, your heart races, and then you pass out. You go into a dream like state that last for what seems like hours. Your life may pass before you, or you may dream something totally different. What matters is that you are spending your last moments in your subconcious. If you lived a life with little regret, pain and suffering you shouild be OK. If you lived a life full of pain, regret and caused a lot of suffering, this can be hell.

Then - everything goes black.

25. I would ask myself that question
when I was on antidepressants. Suddenly "death" seemed cool. I asked my hubby that question and he freaked out, I called the doctor and he said to stop the medication immediately.

26. I've thought about that question from various perspectives,
including the religious one, the clinically depressed on, the calm, reasoned & happy one, etc. On the whole, life looks better. I'm hoping that when old age comes, I'll be ready to say goodbye to all the sweet things in this world.
