Every Trekkie should hang his or her head in shame tonight.
I am so sorely disappointed.

Makes me wonder if Trekkies are even worth their salt any more and if I should just let Nancy have at them.

:grr:

I mean, seriously, there are so many Trekkies here... I find it appalling that so many of you didn't get the reference in that thread. Shame on you!! Maybe we don't have many actual Trekkies here - maybe most of you are just Trekkers.

Hang your heads in shame, and at least try to be a Trekkie.

3. Why would any sane person admit to being a Trekkie? Especially if
they were over 12?

7. The respectful title is Trekker.
"Trekkie" is a pejorative.

11. No, Trekkie is the first, original term. It was the johnny-come-latelies
that decided to be called "Trekkers". Whinging bandwagon jumpers.

12. I thought that "Trekker" went way back to Bjo Trimble?
Back when she was publishing The Star Trek Concordance on mimeo and running The Star Trek Welcommittee?

13. Even Gene Roddenberry said the correct term is "Trekkie"
Though there is always a possiblity that Bjo might have used the term "Trekker", as it is also somewhat old, though was never really considered viable until after TNG came out.

15. I really think I recall hearing or reading Bjo use that term circa 1973
I no longer have the fanzines I had collected from back then due to a flooded basement.

9. Who didn't get the reference?
The doctor in question was about to do brain surgery on Chekov. Kirk and Co. forced he and his staff into an adjoining room (conveniently located) and melted the door lock to allow McCoy to attach a device to Chekov's head and heal his brain, injured in his fall from the USS Enterprise where he and Uhura were gathering power from the nuclear reactor (after finally finding where the nuclear wessels were berthed).

Chekov awoke, proclaimed himself an Admiril and was whisked out of the hospital during a chase on a gurney that ended with them all being beamed to the Enterprise from the elevator. Then they saved the whales.

All this, of course, occurred in the movie "The Voyage Home" also known as Star Trek IV.

16. I'm neither - but I kind of figured it was a reference to the movie where
they go back to save the whales, the one where Kirk talks about using LDS and everyone looks for a "nuclear wessel"
