The newest critter in the Awful Apartment
:)

After just talking about it idly with the girlfriend, I bought a betta fish the other day. When I told her about it afterwards, I said that we had to find a name for him. . . her response was "Do we?" So, without further ado, I present . . . Dewey the Betta :P

2. Very cool.
Have you had fish before? Are you familiar with the care of fish?

I have an uncle who loves his fish, and it always seems like a whole lot of work to keep them healthy and keep the tanks in good condition.

3. OK thats scary
That is a beautiful fish btw and when the tail grows longer it will be even prettier.

I have a Beagle named Do-We. After our dog of 16 yrs died it was a little quiet around here.
So we discussed buying another dog and all weekend it was do we? or don't we?

well we did and her name is Do-We because it sounds better than "we did" :)

4. FYI: They like dirty water.
I've killed many a beta because I cleaned their bowl. He's beautiful. Have fun!

5. I used to have bettas.
Fascinating creatures. If you get another male, put him in a separate tank and set them side by side once in a while. They will entertain you for hours flaring their gills at each other. In the wild, they live in elephant footprints. I read that somewhere. Something to do with rice fields and elephant footprints that fill with water. Each male betta apparently takes up residence in one footprint and fight each other over their territory. The females are pretty bland looking. I still wonder why that is; in the animal kingdom, the males are prettier, but in the human world, the females are prettier. Weird, huh?

6. I had a betta named Gilgamesh for a very long time
but there weren't kitties looming.

You know this fish is gonna drive them bonkers. Will express some cat nip ASAP. That ought to help :)
