Has anyone heard anything about Krispy Kreme going out of business?
I was talking to some women today who said that several Krispy Kreme in our area (Phoenix, AZ) have closed their doors. I've read from the Tucson on-line newspaper that stores there closed today.
They said the rumors are that all stores across the country will be closing for good.

I don't eat their donuts, too sweet and greasy for me, but I found this story interesting because of how ubiquitous the Krispy Kreme donut is. Seems hard to believe that they would just go belly up without any notice.

1. Bankruptcy of Krispy Kreme franchisee leads to store closures

4. Thanks.
I was looking on line at local newspapers and they didn't have any info. Even the story about the Tucson closure didn't say why it was happening.

So I can tell the ladies that they may possibly go back to their 'breakfast of champions' sometime in the future! LOL

13. I love 'em!
They started in North Carolina during the Depression, and were everywhere when I grew up in the south. Fond memory: New Year's Day 1983, when I was in high school - I had a dozen chocolate glazed KK donuts with my Heineken for breakfast. Hangover be damned! :D

5. They've had $$ problems for a while now,
I think it's an indication of growing too much too fast.

HQ here in Winston-Salem brought in some money hatchet guy recently. So that might be what you are seeing.

16. Closed all the store locations in Indianapolis
a few years ago, maybe that's what their doing in Phoenix now. If you go into just about any gas station that has a convience store in it in Indianapolis you will find them either already boxed or in self-serve stand. Now Dunkin Donuts there is not a single location in the Indianapolis area, which after hearing who owns them the Carylyle Group (Bush & Saudi involved) I could care less.

17. Krispy Kreme is based about 25 miles from where I live.
They have had all kinds of financial problems in the past few years, and many franchises are closing. The company itself is still around, and no Krispy Kremes in this area are in danger of closing. But yes, franchise stores have been closing due to poor sales and/or franchise owner financial problems.

Sorry. :(

20. It's ok, I don't eat their donuts. I was just curious about it.
It surprised me that these stores would close when it seemed that everyone but me ate them. But it just may be as others have said that being able to buy them in gas stations and grocery stores doomed the stand alone stores. Who wants to make extra trips just for donuts?

18. They're opening places in China now.
I just saw it on the news. But they did close their locations in the Boston area, which they just entered a few years ago.

19. Our Krispy Kreme
which is located in Branson, on the strip, has to be pretty profitable.

I usually pick up a dozen when I go up there.

22. I don't know about everywhere, obviously,
but the Krispy Kreme store here closed. Wasn't open more than a year or so, either. I still see them around though, so I suspect there are stores up in Denver or something.
