1. Yes they are ugly.
Does that stop them being good? That's a more complex question.

2. I lived next to a coal-fired power station
I'd prefer the windmills.

8. I agree
but coal-fired stations weren't in the poll.

Something else being uglier doesn't stop the turbines being ugly themselves.

3. the modern ones look pretty good
one of the best looking monstroseties we made that are jutting out of the natural landscape.

in the anime movie "macross plus" the romantic spot in the area is star hill, a ton of wind mills over looking a rocky coast

5. your answers are confusing
Are windmills ugly?
good
ugly

It seems you are mixing two thoughts, asthetics and societal value. What is your goal?
Here are some alternatives (and aren't windmills all about alternatives?) :D

Are windmills good?
Absolutely
No
No Opinion

Are windmills ugly?
Yes
No
It's a matter of personal taste

Now, are they good?
YES ABSOLUTELY. A personal home windmill can not only provide up to 80% of your electric needs in peak windy times, but it can also generate income for the homeowner who connects to the powergrid. Surplus energy from their windmill gets fed into the grid, and the homeowner earns money for "selling" that power to the power company.

Are they ugly?
It's a matter of personal taste, however, a person's personal taste SHOULD NOT be a rationale for preventing the installation of home windmills or industrial windmills. I think the benefits derived from wind power/windmills to society at large far outweighs any negative asthetic opinion.

9. didnt think it would be that confusing....
i mean if theres only two options, one is ugly then can't you assume the other one must mean "not ugly"?

7. Never having actually seen any before...
I came across an entire hillside full of them on my drive between San Jose and Stockton and thought they were very cool. We could use more here.

12. I love them. I love the old farm ones, the modern ones, the ones in
Holland, all of 'em.

Now, nuclear power plants...those are ugly. Mountains flattened for coal mining...really ugly.
