Well, I'm apparently not very good at this lesbian thing
I have absolutely no interest in sports--either playing them or watching them. They bore me to death. :boring: It seems, at least in my experience, about 95% of other lesbians are sports fanatics.

I have no romantic interest in "butch" lesbians, and it seems that nearly every time someone has the notion to hook me up with someone, or someone comes on to me they are a butch. While I don't like "Barbie doll" sorts, I do like my women to be on the feminine side. Once again I seem to be in the minority.

When I go out to a gay/lesbian bar I normally dress quite feminine--possibly in a skirt and revealing top if weather permits, and sometimes makeup and extra jewelry. Of course 98% of the other women there are dressed in casual women's clothes or in men's clothing. I stick out but most of the time nobody seems interested. Maybe I'm too feminine for their taste?

Maybe I should return my toaster.

1. Come to Nashville....
...There's a great Lesbian/Gay/Straight/Liberal bar about 2 blocks from our house called "The Lipstick Lounge". The lesbians who go there sound just like you. We go there all the time, and it's lots of fun. If you're ever in Nashville, make a point of visiting.

It is a femme scene, and when I was there a bit of an older scene in my then-opinion (I was in college). Cute space, though! :hi:

2. Wow.
I like sports. I buy more clothes in the boys' section than the ladies. I look goofy in feminine stuff. Did some lobes of our brains get switched or something?

I swear, I'd make the bestest lesbian ever if I weren't into guys. :D

4. LOL
Anything is possible.

I'm waiting for the day I get back into a "real" job for many reasons, but one of them is so I can start wearing nice clothes again. I have a closet full of dresses, skirts and nice sweaters that are just going to waste because I can't wear them to the jobs I work at now. My jewelry box is growing dust on it as well. :-(

45. Now you do sound like me.
Most people who meet me think I'm overly feminine at first, until they actually sit down and talk to me.

I took secretarial courses years ago for only one reason: so that I could wear cute skirts, nice blazers, pretty sweaters, jewerly and heels to work! Most of my friends became teachers and were quite upset that there was a dress code. (Meaning they couldn't wear the same pair of jeans for two weeks straight.) A few became nurses so that they could wear scrubs and tennies, deciding that comfort was definitely a factor in career choice.

I'm the oddball.

Dorothy is telling Blanche that their houseguest is a lesbian. Blanche responds, "A lesbian--wasn't Danny Thomas one?". Dorothy, exasperated, says, "That's Lebanese Blanche".

I know lots of lesbians who have no interest in sports. I also know quite a few lesbians who would never dress butch.

Try a visit to New Paltz or Woodstock. Lipstick lesbians are in the majority there.

I was doing protest training with a gay rights group and we all went out to the movies. I wore the "no one knows I'm a lesbian" shirt. All the ones from the red states were like, "you're going to wear that to a mall?" I had to inform them, "this is NJ. Everyone has seen weirder shit at the mall than a lesbian. It's okay to wear this around here." Then, I took them to the West Village and it was like a Gay Disneyworld for them.

Holy Crap! I just found a new shirt on dyketees that I need...

I have about a 100 snarky t-shirts.

My favorite being has a bunch of drunk people passed out in weird positions with beer bottles around them and "Irish Yoga" written underneath. The most obnoxious is probably the one that says, "Fuck the British. Our time will come. Ireland forever." It's written in Gaelic though, so much people don't know what it says.

35. I am butch and I SUCK at sports
I always let people down when I show up in my Doc Martins and they're all 'Ohh, maybe you could join the rugby/softball team' and I have to confess that if you throw a ball at me it WILL break my glasses and I WILL have to tape them together like a geek. I won't watch televised sports. I can, however, make a delightful casserole.

Lesbian scenes are weird--I like butch women and I had to do some moving around before I found a 'scene' that really accepted that. I lived in NYC for awhile and it was either femme girls and those twee little 'bois' OR AGs and their ladies. Baltimore/DC seems to be the place for rugby dykes who like rugby dykes (and seriously, we have HOT drag kings here. Who woulda thunk?). I found that Northampton had a lot of femmes but that scene was much older and family-oriented if you ignored the lesbians from Smith (and you should, because they are insufferable). Nashville is femme-city. Those are the only cities I know personally!

Don't return the toaster! There are many colors in the gay rainbow! Without knowing your age or occupation or location I would suggest maybe trying a more upmarket lesbian establishment if your community is big enough to support more than one. If the drinks are pricier you'll probably find more femmes and less mullets. :hi:

62. I'd date you...
If I weren't off the market. Fem is great.

I never really saw the whole butch-sports-"macho" thing, even at the bars. All of my girlfriends are/were pretty relaxed and comfortable with their feminine side. Occasionally I'd see it in the older crowd, but not in my peer group. (I'm 30, if that's useful.) Or maybe it's the area; I notice that areas where being out is a major political and personal stance tend to ... I don't know... push people to extremes. Since I came out, I've lived (with the exception of those two years when I spent a couple of decades in Colorado Springs) in pretty moderate to liberal areas where live and let live are the norm rather than the exception.

I see the community acceptance of difference a lot in the metro areas of the west, and not just with GLBT. The really out atheists, political radicals, and others I know usually don't live in the more forgiving places. Heck, it took me a few years after getting out of the Springs before I was able to relax back into comfortable Friendly Neighborhood Bisexuality-Atheism-Social Democraticism-Skepticism instead of being a radical.
