This is the Pugs and he peed on my futon this morning. And crapped. I have no idea why! His litterbox is clean and accessible, I haven't neglected to feed or pet him lately, he's in good health--why, evil cat, WHY??

I'm not really going to give him away, I just wanted to rant! :(

1. He might have litter box aversion.

You might need to change his litter. What kind do you use? If it's scented, definitely get something else. We've had good luck with Dr. Elsey's Precious Cat since one of our kitties got LBA.

4. I use the Arm and Hammer unscented regular stuff

He's never had a problem with it before. I think he's now afraid of the area where his litterbox is (the bathroom). I don't know quite what to do about that because I live in a studio and there really aren't many places for me to put it!

8. that makes sense-- if something scared him while he was in the

bathroom he would avoid it altogether. As I wrote in post below its important to nip this in the bud and not let it become a habit. Put a couple of other boxes around your apt. (temporary) and then gradually move them towards where you want them to be... yeah its a pain but if the odor starts getting into bed, floors etc. its going to be that much more difficult to break the habit. Pet him in the bathroom, feed tuna in there, etc. so he becomes desensitized to that room. Is there some kind of noise he might be hearing there--loud banging dumpsters being unloaded in the early am?

I wouldn't really. :) He's deathly afraid of the outside--well, he's deathly afraid of just about everything.

6. I moved--months ago!

Other than that, no changes other than I finally found a brand of wet food that he can eat without barfing (MaxCat). I think it's his black, black heart!

Its a matter of sleuth work and just working thru all the possibilities. It does sound like its something about the litterbox ... if he's avoiding it altogether, doing both #1 & 2 outside the box... but who knows what goes on in those walnut sized feline brains! Wouldnt hurt to talk to your vet in case it is something physical. Its important to nip it in the bud b4 it becomes an entrenched habit.

...and he would do stuff like that all of the time, and he was vindictive about it. He would crawl into her bag and pee on her planner or anything else that would be important.

10. You might want to schedule a trip to the vet.

If he's been using the litter box right along, and then suddenly starts making messes, it might be that he needs medical attention. He might have a urinary tract infection. Those can be deadly.

You might want to have him checked out to rule out the possibility. He's way to pretty to be suffering.

11. Already Have An Evil (And Adorable) Black Cat

I second everyone who said that if this is the first time he's done this, it's worth taking him to the vet to make sure he's not sick. Most cats will not crap/piss where they (and you) sleep unless they are ill - and with male cats, it could be something very, very serious. Take him to the vet to make sure. I hope it's a waste of time because he's healthy and ornery! But PLEASE make sure! He looks like a sweety, and I know you'd feel awful if he were sick and got worse.

Because when my cats do that, it's b/c theres a new little guy or girl in the house. They want to show us that they're NOT happy about the new kitty & they show that by pissing and shitting all over the place.

And I've been spending extra time at home because he seemed lonely. Who knows what's going on in his little peanut brain? I think something near his litterbox scared him (he's a very timid and shy kitty) and now he's scared of the bathroom. X(
