Hobbies, collectibles?

What are you hobbies, and what do you collect? In my experiences, everyone collects something, be it weird, or outragous or just plain silly. Also, people all have a hobby or two...:) So, what are yours?

My main collectible is Superman, I collect just about anything with the S logo, or superman stamped on it. Its just my thing...:) With my wife, she is a turtle collector, she collects anything turtle related.

My hobbies, are pretty normal, reading, writing, DU, comics, movies, magic the gathering...the usual....:)

6. reminds me of my mother...

she is an office person...meaning, anything office related she buys, like pens, notepads, shelves, little book cases...she is also huge into horses, so all of her office equipment has horses on them....:)

10. From a lot of the companies who produced in the 20th century in...

...California. They had their own distinct style, and are now recognized as such. Also, some of the potters from California in that era are my favorites, such as Sascha Brastoff and Marc Bellaire. Also I love Barbara Willis. They are a distinct genre, and are recognized for a particular "California" style. Google them to check them out.

8. Funny you should mention this about Superman.

I am looking for a particular Superman comic. It is one that was put out by the US Psychological Operations Command about mine awareness. Have your ever heard of this comic or know where I can get one? I collect books about the CIA and certain types of propaganda.

I remember seeing this superman comic before, but I dont' have it...and if you want to look for anything, go to ebay, they have just about everything...but if you dont' like ebay, I recommend going to a big comic book store, or convention, most have huge stockpiles of back issues...

9. Angels and seashells.

I get an angel every Christmas from MrSG. And I love seashells. Don't have a lot of either one, which is fine. I don't want to be overrun with them, but I do love them.

my last trip back up to Ak a lot of people wanted sand, and seashells, so I got a bunch of it...:) My grandmother loves, LOVES Abilone shells...they are pretty nice, and she uses them for buttons....:)

I have one that belonged to my grandparents. Most of my shells are from Oregon and Washington, though I do have some from North Carolina, that my mom brought me after she visited my aunt and uncle there.

oregon/washington...Ketchikan is just like the Pacific Northwest(oregon/washington), wet, green, and lots of rain. When I was in college, I use to bring sand/shells back from Ak, during xmas/summer breaks, I have probably brought 15 lbs of sand, and at least 5lbs of shells down to the lower 48.

Everyone is amused by our sand, its so black, and grainy...

and if you do travel the whole state, you will notice a lot of environmental changes. When I first went to Anchorage/Wasilla I was really taken aback about how flat the area was...I mean, its not flat, but in a sense it is. They have a lot of surronding mt. ranges, but they are WAY out in the distance. The tree's are pretty small also, and some other minor differences. I'm just use to rain, big tree's, rocky beaches with busted glass all over...;)

41. My mother has so many angels!

It started in 1994, when she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She had a lumpectomy, and when she was in the hospital (where she also worked), one of her co-workers brought her an angel figurine. The rest is history. She has some really beautiful ones, and my youngest brother, who builds furniture, made her a beautiful wood and glass cabinet to keep most of them in.

and if you dont' know what sets, tell me the years, in which you bought these cards...I am always trying to find magic players who are trying to dump their whole collection...:) But it depends on what sets...I started withe the Urza block, and a few others...basically the sets from 99-2002...all the latest ones, I have been lax on, cause i'm broke, and packs cost a damn arm and a leg...

Off the top of my head: A ton of Mirrodin, Darksteel (dude was giving his commons away), some from Onslaught, and a little bit of stuff from Ice Age, Stronghold, and Exodus.

do you think? just a rough estimate? I like onslaught/stronghold/exodus, some strong cards in each set, ice age was sorta wish washy...mirrodin/darksteel are okay, artifact heavy, and i hate artifacts!...:) But, if you were to sell them, give me a pm.

than cooking meals. She has a ton of cake pans, and all the tools, and implements that go with it. I have seen her make some great looking cakes, and she made our wedding cake, it wasn't to shabby. She is really...whats the word...persnicketty? choosey? With her cakes, she freaks out if there is any little mistake, so when she is in the mood to bake, I pray nothing screws up...

cake decorating is an art. I don't have the patience for the decorating part of it.

I'm more of a comfort food baker like bread, pies & cobblers. And undecorated cakes. :)

use to collect anything with rabbits, then music boxes, then anne geddes dolls. Just sold them all at a garage sale. I'm downsizing. less to clean. now I do have a few pieces of willow tree. Hubby has beer cans and old signs, baseball cards.

thats a new one for me, never met anyone with a thing for rabbits...:) I don't know if I will ever sell any of my stuff...but maybe, if the price is right...:) I also use to collect beer bottles/alcohol bottles, but that was just an alcoholic phase, I was trying to make a castle outta all the beer/alcohol bottles I drunk...:)

30. my wife and I are in the BK

mode right now, we are working vigourously to get outta that mode. Its crazy what some people get into. After my dad had retired, he got into coins, and belt buckles BIG TIME. I understoond the coins, but belt buckles? And since his stroke a couple years ago, his obsession with coins/belt buckles has grown. He always calls me at weird hours of the night/day, asking me "did you go to that so and so store, and find any new coins?" and I'm like, yeah dad, but they didn't have anything new...

I do go out and get him coins/belt buckles often, but sometimes, he is just stuck in the repeatitive nuance, that some stroke victims can be caught in...

we were in our 30's when we started a family, then there was a 5 year gap, and it all started over

49. I de-collect.

I try to see how much stuff I can get rid of. I try to have as few 'things' as I can. That's my hobby. The older I get, the worse it gets. I am down to one small shelf of books now, and some of those are going the next time around. Every six months, if I haven't used it in six months it goes. I want it so that when I die there will be about three boxes of stuff to throw out. It's a goal, lol.

actually, not much of a collector. I do buy lots of movies. I also have DVD sets of certain shows I like. Arrested Development the first two seasons. First four seasons of The Shield. 3 seasons of The West Wing. Season 3 of Dallas. I have the boxed set of every Wrestlemania ever. I own a lot of James Patterson books.

Hobbies are reading, writing, watching movies, sports, flirting etc. Myspace is a hobby I guess. Blogging.

62. Vintage restaurant ware mugs

I collect the heavy diner mugs, the kind made from about the 1930's to the 1950's.

I do have a few newer ones, because people give them to me, not understanding that I am picky about what I collect. I am nice and I keep them. Some of them are quite pretty, but I prefer the older ones.

When I started collecting them, they were quite inexpensive. Now I am amazed at the prices I see on Ebay.

69. Warhammer miniatures & used to collect comic books

I have a couple of pretty good sized Warhammer fantasy armies: Empire & Orcs/Goblins. I also have a decent amount of random other miniatures from both Warhammer & other companies (like Reaper) I've never had time to really play the Warhammer game, though, so if I actually use my miniatures, it's with D&D games... which I sadly rarely play anymore.

I used to really be an avid comic book collector in the 70s & 80s. After I got out of college in 1989, my habit got up to close to $50/week with my hoping to catch lightning in a bottle by buying nearly every issue #1 that came out - every obscure title you could think of. Some time around 1991, though, I quite collecting cold turkey. I just got sick of not having enough time to read everything that I was spending $200/month on at the time. I figured I could put the money to better use on other things.

71. Castle legos, tracts, and randomness

I used to collect comic books and vinyl when I was a teenager but now I have to pay rent. :\ Now I collect random found objects that strike my fancy, like foreign coins and strange old books.

I love religious pamplets and even have some awesome ones from the 60s (Hare Krishnas, hippie Christians) that my dad gave me. Chick tracts are always fun but you can read them online so I'm more thrilled to find the truly bizarre mimeographed-in-someone's-basement ones. I'm probably the only person at the Greyhound station who actually lights up when someone comes around handing out those things...

I also have a lot of castle Legos and like adding to my sets by buying little pieces here and there. They no longer make many castle sets (and I hate the Harry Potter ones) so it's all about eBay and junk stores. I have about a dozen full castle sets (from my childhood) and I recently got my girlfriend into them--she's using eBay to build up an invading army to attack them! A friend of her roommate's saw her pile of Lego men sitting there one day and asked, in the most incredulous voice, "But, you're not going to *play* with them, are you?" She made it sound like playing with legos was like playing in a litterbox!

Some people just don't know how to have fun. :D

73. old Florida stuff

My family has been in Florida since pre-civil war, so I had lots of historic stuff handed down to me, then I started added to it buying Historic Florida postcards, maps, books, pictures, newspapers, letters, and furniture.

Now, my home is now something of a museum. Many framed items, old furniture, even the house was designed to look like a old Florida Cracker style house. Even the yard is landscaped with only natural Florida plants and trees (no foreign species are allow).

74. Jewelry making, alternative music, and dust.

:P OK, I'm not great at jewelry making, but I've made some killer dangly earrings! I collect alternative music from the very late 70s and 80s. The dust just sort of comes along with the territory. :P

Hubby's a huge collector of all sorts of stuff. Action figures, original comic art (most of which is his own work), western collectibles, military memorabilia, and a few other things. Our downstairs den is his haven, and it's full of crap. Uh...I mean stuff. :P
