Best tribute song or in memoriam
Way too many for a poll but I submit:

Pete Rock and CL Smooth "The Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)". I'm not a huge rap fan but this is a helluva song.

Smashing Pumpkins "For Martha". I know SP cause a visceral love or hate reaction in most people (I'm in the former) but this song does to the listener exactly what it is supposed to.

Flame me for liking SP or add your own please.

19. Elton John has done three. "Empty Garden,"and both "Candle in the Wind"
versions, to Marilyn Monroe and Princess Diana. "Empty Garden" was of course to John Lennon.

27. Great band, saw 'em live at a bar in '92.
UT had a more rockin' and less slick sound than Wilco. As a midwest kid of roughly the same age and influences as UT, I enjoyed and admired them greatly. Wilco is terrific, but Rock-n-roll is more my cup of tea.

Ask enigmatic about UT sometime. He could tell you far more than I could. You should check 'em out sometime if you like Wilco though.

31. Forgot to mention that D Boon was the singer/guitarist
for the Minutemen. Would definitely recomend them too. 'Double Nickels on the Dime' is their best known work for a reason.

Both of these bands inlcluded at least 2 members who were childhood friends. It is sad that both ended after relatively short runs.

23. "Back On the Chain Gang." The Pretenders
Regarding the hardship Chrissie faced going on with the Ps after the deaths of bassist Pete Farndon and guitarist James Honeyman-Scott.

I FOUND A PICTURE OF YOU, OH OH OH OH
THOSE WERE THE HAPPIEST DAYS OF MY LIFE
LIKE A BREAK IN THE BATTLE WAS YOUR PART, OH OH OH OH
IN THE WRETCHED LIFE OF A LONELY HEART
NOW WE'RE BACK ON THE TRAIN
OH, BACK ON THE CHAIN GANG

24. Candle In the Wind - "Goodbye, Norma Jean"
I mourned Princess Diana but didn't much care for the weepy remake. Sorry.

I have always loved Candle In the Wind. What a song.

from the young man in the twenty-second row
who sees you as something more than sexual

Wow.
