I'm on vacation & my chickenshit boss just called to terminate
Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 04:50 PM by cmt928
me!

I have 26 people coming for a family picnic in about 15-30 minutes and he just called and said I was being terminated.

They only got rid of the low paid people and nobody in management (salary range of $80-$140,000) even were willing to take a 10% pay cut.

The company had 17 employees in office and 4 off site. They told us last year if they ever sold the company they would share the profits with all the employees based on how long they worked there. I think they will sell the company outright in the near future and laid us off so we can't share in it - they are keeping a lot of high paid useless project managers (making over $90K) and get rid of me with 8 years of service and 3 others, making under $40K.

I can't respond to many now since my guests are arriving, but I wanted post to get my anger out and hear anything from others for support!

1. Good grief!
What a horrible thing to do to somebody. I think I'd have to periodically excuse myself from the guests and go scream into a pillow or something. :(

2. That is just terrible!
What a chicken-livered coward.... and a sadist to ruin your vacation. They have no sense of how they mess with people's lives. Evil, cold-hearted bastards, all of them.

Sorry to hear of your loss...may it all work out for the best for you and yours. :pals:

17. WARNING.... ....WARNING..... .......WARNING.... ...WARNING
Dear jus_the_facts,

In the future would you please refrain from using the words "yanked out through his penis". If you must use that terminology, please put the word WARNING in the subject line so that the other men of DU do not have to experience the pain and revulsion I felt by reading those tortuous painful words. I feel like I channeled your SO's pain. x(

Sincerely,

The Submariner for the men of DU

Chickenshit is the perfect word for him.

6. GOD, that's awful. This touched a nerve with me.
That some fucking gunnysack of weasel-shit would can you after 8 years on the spot and over the phone! I got dumped too but I knew it was coming, got a good severance check because the damned company got sold 4 yrs after starting up. As to the numerous goat-fucking promises of this kind of employer, forget it. Greedy asshats look after no one but themselves. Are you at least getting severance pay? You should have a drink. I'm really sorry about this because so many trusting and hard-working people find themselves ass-up over a barrel. 26 guests on the way, huh? I don't usually do this, but I'll pray for you.

8. Hugs to you...
I just don't understand why they couldn't at least have the decency to tell you in person. Happened to my hubby that way once, after 9/11. It sucks. Hopefully, the next place you work will have people with more compassion.

Again, hugs...

11. Yes, this totally sucks...
and many if not all of us are quite angry about it.

They fired 4 of MY FRIENDS Dammit. It's not going to be the same...

(The outside consultant / Hatchet man sat in our meeting today. It was like fucking Office Space.)

Hang in there. It's been a pleasure working with you for the past 7 years.

and I am so sorry. I don't know what I can say to help but it just really, really sucks. Are they doing this in the middle of your vacation so they don't have to give you vacation pay? Really, really low.

In California, it's illegal to fire someone while they're on authorized leave.

16. I think we all pretty much agree
that businesses can be absolutely evil. Towards employees, towards customers, towards the environment. Whereever there is a chance to be evil most companies will rise to the challenge.
:grr:

I am very sorry about this. I hope something far better comes along quickly. :)

22. Since
they told you last year if they ever sold the company they would share the profits with all the employees based on how long they worked there, you might be able to take legal action. Check with a lawyer. This could me a wrongful termination--just to avoid that profit share.

Just reading some helped me understand that I am not wrong to feel hurt and angry.

And yes, although I had our family picnic (everybody came - first time we had all the relatives from my husband's side and my side) I found myself making nasty comments during conversations. They just flew out of my mouth, --I didn't want to think about it, but it was on my mind.

Most have gone, a few still here, but I had to sneak away just to get read some other's thoughts about it.

They told me to come in tomorrow to clean out my desk and personal items and read and sign some things, but I had plans for my vacation - going to the zoo with my son, daughter-in-law & grandkids from Oregon, my daugher and her fiance from California, my other daughter from here and my sister-in-law and brother-in-law from Texas. Told them it would have to be when I could do it since I had made these plans. I will do it when I want to and I will hold my head up high when I go in.

Thanks for the hugs, I need them!

On edit: feeling like this and typing don't work very well - had to correct lots of spelling errors!
