Post your exciting story here.
No, I'm not talking about your daughter, or your son being born. Or getting married to your wonderful husband or wife. Those are everyday occurrances in this world. Mundane, in this context.

I'm talking about your most unique exciting experience. Or, for many of us, any, of a number of unique exciting situations.

For example: It was seven years ago, on vacation. My wife, son and I were on a horseback ride, through Redwood country in northern California. Our guide (a seventeen year old member of the family that owned the ranch) pointed out a Roosevelt Elk that looked old and diseased. Even said it could mean trouble down the trail. Sure enough, three fourth's through the ride, this elk attacked the horse in the rear of our party. The elk attacked us from behind, reared up and started chopping at our horses with it's hooves. The rest of the horses got spooked, reared up, (thank God my wife, son and I were able to maintain), the guide's dog got injured by the elk. The guide wheeled around, charged the elk, the elk took off, lickety split, with the guide directly behind it, as he unsheathed a Winchester from a scabbard, and chased that elk a couple of miles, before he lost it, in the dense forest. We heard two shots from the rifle, and wondered whether he got the elk.

The guide caught up with us at the end of the trail and offered us our money back for the ride.(which was a little over a hundred dollars for the three of us) We asked him if he got the elk, to which he said "No." But he made sure it wouldn't come back any time soon.

I spoke up and said that it was not necessary. That I would have paid double for what had just taken place. (the guide's dog was alright)

Everyone in the party was fine(no one hurt), and I had an experience that I will always remember.

Anybody have any stories they would like to tell?

1. When I was in college, my brother and I
and four of our friends went to Harper's Ferry, and hiked up Maryland Heights. We were tired and thirsty when we came back down; and we hadn't brought canteens. We decided to take a short-cut to the bridge that would send us back to town by walking through the train tunnel. It was Sunday; and we figured our chances of meeting a train in there were next to nothing.

It was interesting in there. Every few yards there was a little alcove, presumably for people to duck into if a train came by. We'd get a little jumpy every time we heard a truck, but then we'd relax and keep going. About halfway through the tunnel, we realized that the sound of one truck was getting steadily louder. We turned around, saw the headlight glaring at us, and screamed as the engineer blew our freaking ears off with his whistle. We must have been a sight as we ran out of the tunnel.

There was a woman sketching on the other side of the bridge. When we approached, she started laughing her head off. She had been drawing this lovely pastoral scene that thousands of other aspiring artists have attempted to capture, when we came screaming out of the tunnel like banshees.

It was quite an adrenaline rush...

2. The ones you told me I couldn't post about are the ones I would
post about. :(

There was nothing mundane about having a child in the face of being told it would never, ever happen. I am sorry it doesn't fit the question, but it is the most exhilirating thing I've ever done. More so than White water rafting...more so than the time I got caught in a Tornado. I had a son when everyone told me to give up. :hi: In my mind, no one's story could beat that. :)
