And so does Applebee's. Chili's is bland and mediocre. Quizno's tastes like poop. Mimi's is vastly overrated.

But if you enjoy them, you won't get any crap from me. I just think these establishments have not gotten their due in August - DU's Official Chain Restaurant Thread Month. :patriot:

1. That's blasphemy

Souplantation/Sweet Tomatoes has been one of my all-time favorite culinary outlets since I first discovered it in the late '80s. When I lived behind the Dixie Curtain I mourned its absence, along with that of Trader Joe's, until they opened some Sweet Tomatoes around Atlanta and where I was doing some of my work in Florida...ahhhhhh...the sun shone more brightly from that day forward.







I mean, it's no Cracker Barrel, but...

2. I don't hate it

I have no nightmare tales to regale the Lounge with - my one experience was in San Diego and it was okay - but the way my colleagues raved about it made me downgrade it for balance. :P

One thing I have learned about chains - as monolithic as they appear on the American landscape, they are NOT created equal from individual location to location. I think the difference between two IHOP's can be greater than that between an IHOP and an indie.

I guess.

But I got my eye on you, boy...I got my eye on you reeeeal good.

And, yes, sometimes those consistency problems in franchises can be a tad disconcerting, like when one outlet is heaven on earth and another turns out to be some kind of germ warfare experiment gone awry.

Although I have nothing bad to say about Elvis. I have blasphemy standards, ya know. :D
