8 Important Lessons Learned from '80s Cartoons
...

CARTOON: G.I. Joe
LESSON: Knowing is half the battle.

The other half of the battle is kicking Cobra’s terrorist ass. And with the coolest soldier codenames ever --Snake Eyes, Duke, Lady Jaye, Shipwreck-- winning the war on terror should be no problem. Good will always win out over evil, because good guys work together (Team Work! Cooperation!), while bad guys are ruthless cowards who turn tail and run whenever G.I. Joe’s laser guns get to zappin’. As Sergeant Slaughter once said: “Our enemies are innovative and resourceful, and so are we. They never stop thinking about new ways to harm our country and our people and neither do we.”
Now that’s some good strategery.
How it affected us as adults: Actually, we’re pretty certain that our strategy for the Iraq War was conceived after a two day long G.I. Joe marathon in the Pentagon. They just implicitly trusted that the good guys were going to win, that firing off our guns would make the bad guys run for the caves and that giving everyone cute nicknames was somehow endearing. When things didn’t turn out the way they’d planned, the administration placed the blame on faulty intelligence, or in other words: “Knowing is half the battle, and we unfortunately didn’t know shit.”

after 9/11 they started showing reruns of GI Joe on cartoon network. At first I was like yeah, old school! But then, creepiness crept in my brain, and I had a creepy thought...are they pushing this cartoon, to our kids/younger generation, because we are headed to war?....but, I was wasted when I had that thought...

on edit:spelling

6. We can be very perceptive when wasted
I wouldn't put it past anyone to re-run GI Joe to help support the "rah rah military service and war are great" meme we've seen since the war began. Nothing like training them from the get-go. :scared:

7. It was nuts
because pre 9/11 I couldnt' find any GI Joe stuff, toys, shirts, or shows, worth a damn...after 9/11, I swear a month later, I started seeing GI Joe reruns on cartoon network, once in the morning, and then again at 10pm at night....

9. Gotta keep the armchair warmongers and chickenhawks entertained
as well as train the yung'uns to become fodder when they grow up. It wouldn't surprise me if the freepers have circle-jerks over GI Joe dolls in their basements. :puke:

8. LOL!
The Smurfs:

However, the sexual politics of Smurf Village, with its one female for every 30 guys, did go a long way towards preparing us for freshman year of college.
