Explain this to me...
I saw a huge pickup truck in front of me in traffic today.

The back window has a "Peace" sticker. The license plate frame says "National Rifle Association". I'm confused.

1. I'm liberal & anti-war, but pro-gun (pro gun control too, though).
I still wouldn't have anything to do with the NRA though because they support Republicans. So, basically...I don't know. It doesn't make much sense to me.

2. In Indiana
We have specialty license plates that are environmental with a portion of the price going to a environmental charity. I see these plates on a whole lot of gas guzzling SUVS and even on some Hummers.

4. Wanting politicians to keep their sticky fingers out of your gun safe
Edited on Wed Aug-09-06 11:01 AM by benEzra
is not incompatible with thinking the war in Iraq was a big mistake. Lots of DU'ers own guns...and fully half of gun owners are NOT repubs...

8. I'm not talking about the fact that they own a gun
I'm talking about the affiliation with the NRA.

13. I see your point...
A lot of gun owners see the NRA as the only thing preserving their right to keep the guns they own, though, and to a large degree they're right. Honestly, were it not for the NRA, I suspect that we nonhunters would have lost our right to own the civilian guns of our choice a long time ago.

I am currently an NRA annual member myself. I'd love to see a pro-gun alternative to the NRA that was less partisan, but currently I don't believe there is one. Don't like their rhetoric or some of LaPierre's favoritism toward repubs on non-gun-related issues, but unfortunately they're the only game in town on the gun issue at the moment.

At the state and local level, they are more evenhanded, though. Our Dem governor and most of our (D) state government was NRA endorsed in 2004, FWIW.

5. Probably another liberal like many of us pushed to gun ownership
By the current administration

Of course, he needs to learn the NRA is not a lobbying arm for gun owners, but for gun manufacturers

6. Employ your 2nd Amendment rights to defend your 1st Amendment rights
That sounds a lot more militant than how I usually roll.

12. Easy. MrG is a hunter.
He could quite possibly have the same stickers on his car.

Except the ones he has right now say:

"Proud of my Country...Ashamed of my Government"

and

"You don't support the Troops when you support the LIES that kill them"

and

"I have a dream" with a picture of Bush behind bars. :hi:
