So what are you drinking tonight?
Absinthe here.

"Got tight last night on the absinthe.
Did knife tricks."
-Hemingway

I'll try to refrain from the knife tricks, but I make no promises. I do like my knife collection.

3. Hello!
Ice water isn't very exciting. Actually, this absinthe sucks, but I might as well start drinking it. The bottle's been barely touched since I got it for my b-day (Feb). Never send your mother to buy you absinthe. It just doesn't work right.

The only thing I have giving me looks right now is my cat. She's also licking her ass, so her opinion doesn't count.

I even have a few absinthe spoons. It's just that this particular brand is exceptionally bitter.

6. Fruit wine doesn't usually take on the fruit's characteristics.
Not so much in my experience, anyway. Although, there's a distinct strawberryishness (ahem, vintner jargon) in strawberry wine.

Never tried absinthe. Is it as good as Van Gogh said?

9. Well, this particular absinthe sucks.
This stuff tastes like it's a Czech absinthe and it's French. La Fee is okay and I once had an excellent Spanish absinthe (drawing a blank on the name). Basically, absinthe doesn't cause hallucinations normally. The thujones in it are a neurotoxin, which will build up in the brain, so large quantities of absinthe over a period of time, will result in hallucinations and such. It is a different buzz than regular alcohol though. It has a super high alcohol content (up to about 140 proof) but it results in a clear-headed, motivated buzz. Not what you'd really expect considering the alcohol content. Most productive night of my life involved absinthe and some nice white powder, but I try to avoid that generally.

Hard to find here, but our provincial liquor website has a really handy guide to tell you what stores have how many bottles.

One day, eventually.

but the Baltimore brew Loose Cannon, high hop ale has my heart.

Can't buy $80 liquor on line, can't justify.

Well, high alcohol, Absolute, peach schnapps, fresh MD grown peaches and some smoke, will do ya good

I had two bottles for about six months, until I hosted an absinthe weekend. Um...yeah, it ended up being much like something from "Fear & Loathing."

21. The ban on it is stupid.
It's not as dangerous or as hallucinogenic as it's hyped to be. It can cause hallucinations with long term abuse, but people seem to think just drinking it will be like shrooming or something. It's definitely a different buzz than regular liquor though. Very clear-headed and motivating. I can see why it was popular with artists and writers.

I never even thought about ginger limeade, which is amazing since I love ginger and limeade. The Santa Cruz Organic lemonades and limeades are on sale by me for $1.29. I bought a case.

Trader Joe's has it. I was bummed when they discontinued the Ginger Lemonade, but this stuff is even better.

I love the Santa Cruz organics too (and it's a better deal) but this stuff is amazingly good.

Supposedly, anyway. Never tried the stuff. As a fan of Henry Miller and Ernest Hemmingway, it holds a strong mystique for me. I keep planning to order it online, but... I don't know, I come from a long line of addicts, so I'm always hesitant to try anything I can become addicted to. Even coffee. It's nice being the only sober and sane person in my family.

49. You have to drink a very large quantity over an extended period of time
for that to happen. You don't start tripping from just drinking some absinthe, although that's what people often think. It's a more clear-headed buzz than regular liquor though.
