Bedbug infestations on rise across U.S.
There was a "Nightline" investigation about bedbugs maybe a year ago, that focused on good quality hotels in and around New York City. Seems the problem keeps growing.

Bedbug infestations on rise across U.S.

By KATE BRUMBACK
THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

ATLANTA -- After waking up one night in sheets teeming with tiny bugs, Josh Benton couldn't sleep for months and kept a flashlight and can of Raid with him in bed.

"We were afraid to even tell people about it at first," Benton said of the bedbugs in his home. "It feels like maybe some way your living is encouraging this, that you're living in a bad neighborhood or have a dirty apartment."

Absent from the U.S. for so long that some thought they were a myth, bedbugs are back. Entomologists and pest control professionals are reporting a dramatic increase in infestations throughout the country, and no one knows exactly why.

1. Mark my words. A new bedbug product will be released......
soon and sales will take off. I've seen this at so many news sites that I'm sure it's a marketing ploy.

3. Blame good ole' global trade for this little fun...
I work at a hotel. Actually, the better hotels (one's that are super expensive), normally have more probs than small ones. but it is not specific. Just an observation

5. Speaking as a bedbug, I'm quite offended at the bad press...

...we're getting lately. We bedbugs are a peaceloving species who want nothing more than a nice warm bed to live in and some scrofulous skin to nibble. For centuries, we've had to endure huge, hairy humans depositing their smelly carcasses in our habitat for up to ten hours a day, without so much as asking permission. It's an outrage. But do you hear us complaining? You do not. Yet now its the humans who are claiming that we're the problem. The nerve! Yes, yes, a few bad apples among us do nibble the occasional human, but it's only fair considering they're in OUR HOUSE. Is it really too much to expect an uninvited houseguest to pay a little rent? I think you'll agree it's not.

So let's hear no more of this 'bedbug infestation' nonsense. It is my dearest wish that human and bedbug live in harmony, each giving according to their ability and taking according to their need. Thank you for your time.

Pass the dandruff please, I'm starving.

7. New Bush Policy: The War on Bedbugs
"Eh, we're not really thinkin' about them terrists anyway," says Bush. "More importantly I've lost sleep to them dang bedbugs. That's why I will root them out and keep 'em on the run. If you aren't for bedbugs, you're against them. We didn't seek this war, this war sought us.

War on Bedbugs!

8. Got bit at a very high-end hotel
Showed the manager the bite (the biter got out of my grasp and got away) and said "and before you suggest I got it elsewhere, I was bit on a Sunday night, and just two days before, I checked out of your hotel in Ft. Lauderdale!"

9. There was a breakout of them in a dorm at my old college
fortunately I wasn't living in that building but I remember they fumigated the building and bought new mattresses. It's a pain in the ass to get rid of those things. I can only imagine the outbreaks of bedbugs on college campuses are going to get really bad in the next few years due to the closeness and cleaning habits of the students combined with the fact that dorm mattresses are nasty
