43. Um . . . he never had a constant tone. It always changed.
His tones were originally dictated by cheap amps the band found for him to destroy on stage. Same for the guitars, which were smashed.

You just jumped in and named a "famous guitarist" without thinking about signature tones.

45. Oh really? Marshalls and Hiwatts were cheap?
Hiwatts have never been cheap. Marshalls have never been cheap. Nor were Rickenbackers, SG's, Les Paul's or any other hapless guitar that I ever saw the man destroy.

Here's someplace you might want to check out before you decide to discount Townsend with facts that you got...hell, I don't know where you got that.

http://www.thewho.net/whotabs/equipment.htm

Look through that and tell me where you got the idea he was playing cheap shit, 'cause I'm dying to know.

Or was this thread about guitarists who sound the same all the damn time, never evolving, never moving out of their crib and maturing?

Oh...then Clapton. Without a doubt. Clapton. Clapton is God! (sleep next to the pod...it won't hurt you...join us...)

46. Buh?
Usually you're quite clever, insightful and on-the-mark, but this time you're way off.

If you can't "name that tune in two notes" when it's Pete Townsend's guitar, you've been living on Neptume until just recently. Of course he has a signature tone. Not just in the "power" Who of the 70s, but in the early days, as well. Even his solo album Broken Glass was distinctively Pete Townshend, and with that album, there was no mistaking "signature tone" with the familiarity of a rock anthem.

Come to think of it, you're never clever, insightful and on-the-mark :hi: .
