Tax free lingerie
For three days starting Friday, Virginia shoppers won't have to pay the 5 percent sales tax on school supplies priced at up to $20 per item and clothing and shoes costing up to $100. Similar sales tax holidays have been popular in other states, including North Carolina.
that was this last weekend

The school supplies list includes 39 items ranging from binders to writing tablets. Consumers get the savings regardless of whether the items are intended for school use--a potential benefit to artists stocking up on brushes and paint, musicians in need of sheet music and anyone in the market for certain office supplies.

The clothing list includes a number of items not normally associated with school: baby bibs, aprons, lingerie, rubber pants, wedding apparel and diapers--both infant and adult, cloth and disposable.

In some cases, the tax department's examples of items that are covered and those that aren't seem paradoxical. Bathing caps, golf clothing and steel-toed shoes are covered; hair nets, golf gloves and hard hats are not.
