So, this weekend is tax free weekend in VA. No tax on anything
related to school supplies. Some stores are paying the tax on big ticket items, like plasma tvs to bring in the traffic, but I digress.

I bring the 10yo, who is hopping up and down with excitement because she 'loves buying school supplies'. :eyes: We go to Target, fill the cart with supplies for her as well as a few things we need, and some generic supplies for the two high schoolers.

$314.20. So Collin, my neighbor's son and a doll starts telling me that I could save $31.42 if I got a Target card. I tell him "thanks, but no thanks, I don't want another card". He starts telling Eddie, another one of my daughter's friends working the cash register at the next booth, that "Mrs. G could save $31.42 if she got a Target card".

Suddenly, all eyes are on me. I have to tell Collin, who has now gone from my friend's precious son to yet another annoying teenager, that if I use my AMEX, I get points, and they pay for trips for us. Collin is still yelling to Eddie that I could save $31.42 if I got a Target card.

I think I am going to have to start shopping elsewhere.

2. As I use my Visa card to get miles....
which next month will take me to a family reunion.

Additionally, the more cards you have (and use), the more damn bills you have to pay.

9. No kidding. We have one card, AMEX and our debits.
We do have two other visa/mastercards that are for emergencies only which we don't use.

This summer, with Mike recuperating and on 70% of his salary, we have spent only with cash or the debit card and it is quite an eye opener. We waste a lot of money, especially on the kids.

3. I loved buying school supplies at that age
I'd make my parents buy me the really expensive pens and pencils, notebooks, etc. Then when I got older I realized that I'd lose half of it in a week, so now I just buy the cheap pens that come 24 in a pack.

4. I spent $2.50 there yesterday and was asked if I wanted to open a card

My mom works at a dept store and they get $1 per card and there are also quotas that they need to meet. Of course, there is no bonus for providing excellent customer service.

7. I get asked if I want to open a card there all the time
In Fayettenam, Target is right next to Home Depot and they sell canned goods, so if I don't feel like eating sandwiches for lunch I'll go get a can of chili or something and heat it up in the breakroom microwave.

Chili is $1.05.

"Would you like to open a Target card and save ten percent on your purchase?" Let's see...open a Target card and pay 21 percent interest so I can save a dime on a can of chili? What's 21 percent on a can of chili?

10. Yep, here in TX too.
In all the years they'd been doing it I never had the money or the inclination to enjoy it. This year, I needed some new pants and some more little white T-shirts.

Went to Coldwater Creek and found just what I needed AND some little black cowboy boots. I love boots! My last pair got destroyed when our rental house sprung a leak from the bathroom and it seeped into my old closet. All my shoes reeked of mildew.

Now I can walk around with attitude again. :D
