For the past 5 or 6 years, my wife and I have been in charge of putting together and coordinating the neighborhood rummage sale. We usually get about 30 or 40 homes doing it, and everyone has a great time socializing and getting rid of the junk from their basements and closets. We run an ad in the paper, put out signs, give people balloons and flag-streamers, and make up maps of the area for each participant to hand out. The whole reason we did this was to be able to look at our neighbor's treasures and buy stuff for ourselves, but it has taken on a life of its own now. But since we moved away to a new neighborhood, we did not run it this year, but we moved our stuff to sell back to the old house and participated. Here is a photo essay of my day yesterday...
The home I am paying mortgage on but not living in. We had the driveway filled Saturday morning and the lawn too. The garage is packed with shelves and tables full of items. This pic was taken Saturday afternoon, when the sale was almost over.
The kids had a lemonade stand, and made a bunch of money selling lemonade, soda and water. RetroBoy is practicing his teen-age scowl...
RetroGirl spent most of the day playing with stuff we were selling...
MrsRetro did most of the heavy lifting...
While i chilled out under the canopy, took the money, put stuff in bags. Hard work...
All in all we made about $1000 over 2 days. Then I went shopping at the other houses in the neighborhood. Here's what I brought home:
Nice vinyl, for 25 cents each...
Nice set of VHS tapes, for 25 cents each.
Books are always a bargain. Again, 25 cents each.
$10 table for the computer to go on...
$5 rug, needs a good vacuuming...
$15 microwave. Such a deal...
Tall CD tower and a giant Panda Bear! $5 each
Set of 2 CD towers, $3 for the pair!
A bit of jewelery for me. $3
All-in-all a successful day. And I can pay rent now...
