My mom is ill.
We got the news on Friday. Terminal liver cancer. The doctors say it's a matter of weeks before the end. I'm gonna finish up some stuff in the next couple days then go back home to be with her. She had a hard life, and now she's going to have a hard end,but she'll be in her own house with her family.

1. I'm so sorry, Swede
I hope you have some family around to help you, too. Being a caretaker in situations like this can be really rough. I do hope your mom doesn't experience (much) pain.

5. Swede, I'm so very sorry
for what your mother is going through and sorry for the loss you are experiencing and will experience. May her journey be peaceful and hopefully pain free.
My mother passed from colon cancer and in the end liver cancer. She faded into a quiet comatose state in the last week of her life. The paliative care Dr kept her medicated and we hope pain and anxiety free.
My best wishes and condolences to you and yours.

It's not easy to lose your Mother.

sincerely

6. Oh Swede, I'm so sorry...
My grandmother died when colon cancer spread to her liver. She managed pretty well until the last couple of weeks. I'm so glad I had the chance to tell her I loved her before she passed.

It's good that you can be with your mom...
I keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.:hug::hug::hug::hug:

9. Swede, I am so sorry
Enjoy the precious time you have left with her.

It seems so unfair that the ones who have spent a life struggling have to suffer even more as they pass. My mom was like that, too. I never found any answers, or any wisdom from it to pass on.

You and your family are in my thoughts.

Sorry to hear about your circumstances. The connecting will be magnificent partially because of the tremendous grief you all feel and partially by how your all deal with the situation. I suspect I haven't told you anything you don't already know.

Go well and be well.

11. I'm so sorry, Swede,
What sad news. It is good that you can spend her remaining time with her and that your family will be together to support each other in such a terrible, difficult time.

I wish for your mom a peaceful and painless passage; and for you and your family, as much comfort and support that you can give each other.

It's going to be a tough few weeks for you, and I'll have you and your family in my thoughts.

This is one of those I don't know what to say topics. Nothing I say will change the situation. Just be glad you have time with your mom. Come back when you can. We understand what you are going through.

You will be in my thoughts. Do take advantage of any hospice care available in her area. The hospice workers not only comfort her but can comfort you as she goes through the stages prior to the end of her life.

As the good Rev Cheesehead said above, you will never regret it, hard as it may be.

My best to you.

36. I am so very sorry.
What terrible news and what a tough thing to have to face. I lost my Dad to cancer, at far too young an age, so I'm with you, my friend. Just do what you need to do and you'll have few regrets. My Dad was at home, as well, since that's the way that he wanted it. I wish that I'd known then what I know now, since I never believed that this could happen. Stay strong and I'll be thinking of you. Your mom raised a very good person and must be proud of that. Your friends on DU are always here, whenever you need us...
