No to pillow shams! No to dust ruffles! Just want a #$% bedspread!
and I have to go online to find one.

I do NOT want all that other crap!!!!!! I HATE the whole IDEA of pillow shams!!! Aaahhh!!!! It's a huge corporate conspiracy to sell more expensive bedding!!!!

And while we're on it, why can't I find simple window shades anymore? I don't WANT bamboo or jute $50 shades. I want a nice, room-darkening, white plastic pull shade.

Arrrgh. I am SUCH a fossil.

1. We have a cotton matelasse beadspread.
Must be 10 years old by now. I LOVE it! No shams or dust ruffles ... and it's easy to wash.

I've seen cheap shades online. I hope you can find some.

2. Go to a hardware store for cheap shades.
The bigger independent ones will have them, inexpensively, and sometimes cut to order.

3. See, and most companies I'm aware of
sell all that stuff separately because they make more money that way. I've never had a problem going into a store and finding just sheets, or just blankets, or just dust ruffles.

8. Right, but no "just bedspreads"
The quilts they do sell aren't big enough to function as a bedspread for a Queensized bed. You then HAVE to have a damned dust ruffle and damned pillow shams.

/sorry, I'm in rant mode today because I was trying to find a new bedspread yesterday

18. Try Lands' End.
www.landsend.com. They have bedspreads and they size most of their stuff pretty generously.

4. Have you tried Anna's Linens?
I'm almost positive you can get a bedspread without the doodads there. I think they may have plain window shades there as well, if not try the hardware store for that.

9. Never heard of it, but I'll see if it's online and add it to my list
Grrrr....

Sent SO to Target for a shade for the mildew-prone bathroom, and he came back with a $30 jute monstrosity that needs about 4 people just to install it. I checked online, and no, Target doesn't sell regular shades anymore.

Off to Loeh's then.

10. Try Vermont Country Store
Yeah, it's on line and a tad pricey, but some nice old timey type spreads. Plus, good quality and many still Made in USA.

12. Thanks -- that might be an option
I just wish I could still buy one at a store, but it looks like on-line is going to be the only way.

16. Well, if you're ever near Weston VT, stop in.
It's a great store and a New England tradition.

I know what you mean. On line gives more choices, but I miss the hands out.

17. Target did not have them when I looked either....
Just a simple bedspread--not a "comforter' or whatever. I was really surprised Target didn't have any at the store I was at. I finally found a summer weight cotton bedspread at Domestications.com

Sorry. They have them at the target we go to, and it's not even a super target.

14. I feel your pain.
we had a kitty incident the other day that required laundering all linens including bedspread. bedspread's padding died a matted death in the washer.

I wanted to just go online and order something, much easier and I love overstock.com and smartbargains.com. but DH wanted to go to the mall, and see and touch them. and so we went to Macy's.

Macy's sale prices are worth the hassle of going there, to get better quality, and more of a selection than TJs/Marshalls/Ross odds and sods.

it was not an unsuccessful trip - we got a Primaloft comforter and a fairly nice cotton duvet cover. but there was more selection and better prices on both items on the websites mentioned above. all in all I would rather have ordered online.

22. I can't find oval vinyl tablecloths anymore.
A cloth tablecloth will last approximately one day in my house before it gets stained, so I use vinyl tablecloths. That is, I did before they stopped making the oval ones. It's just a conspiracy to make me buy a rectangular table.
